scarf shop on ile st louis

hi fodorites,

i recall passing a scarf shop on rue st louis en l'ile while in paris last year. i'm pretty sure that the store was DIWALI. i've used the street view function in google maps and it shows the storefront as i remember it (gotta love technology!)

i also recall walking into the store and quickly walking out b/c the scarves i saw were fairly expensive (like 40 euros +). granted, i didn't dig through the piles of scarves but i do remember looking specifically at a few ... and being a bit intimidated by the price!

i keep reading about a scarf store in ile st louis where other fodorites are buying beautiful scarves for 10E. is diwali the store? or is there another scarf store on the island with great scarves?

i'm back in paris this fall and am looking for a scarf!

thanks!!

It's the same store. You need to look a little deeper. I found scarves there in April from 10E to 40E depending on the material used. They have other stores in Paris as well. I believe I saw one in The Marais. It's a great store with wonderful gift opportunities too.

In June, I spent 3 weeks in Paris. I frequented Diwali all the time, mostly because it was so cheerful in their stores (everything is brightly colored and happy) and because their salespeople were so friendly! They particularly loved me because I am an American who speaks French. I bought a beautiful hammered-silk scarf in a lovely shade of raspberry for about 15 euro, but they have costume jewelry and what seemed to be zillions of scarves in an amazing array of colors and fabrics. I believe the most expensive scarf I saw was 35 or 40 euros. I have their card, and I'll type their locations for you:
52, rue saint louis en l'ile, 75004 Paris. Tele: 01 46 34 83 95
47/49 rue Mouffetard, 75005 Paris. Tele: 01 43 36 19 02
7 rue de la huchette, 75005 Paris. Tele: 01 43 26 33 30
40 rue saint andre des arts, 75006 Paris. Tele: 01 43 29 10 09
5 rue Norvins, 75018 Paris. Tele: 01 42 54 16 35
I just LOVE diwali! you should go, no matter what!! While you are in Paris, also go to Amarino, the ice cream place. they put the ice cream in a flower shape, it's great.
hope his helps!

I agree about Diwali. I shop there every time I'm in Paris. They really do have all prices, and last year they gave us a good deal because we bought 10 scarves for gifts.

There are cheaper scarves in the tourist "little bit of everything" shops but the quality is sometimes not as good.

If this isn't too late... lilaki, the store that I bought (with help from my boys and DH!) when we were there in June was on rue Isle Saint Louis - somewhere around 19 or something like that. I only know it 'visually' that it was on the right hand side as we walked from our apartment at 40 rue Isle Saint Louis in the direction away from Notre Dame. It was just a scarf (plus some other clothing) store - no other touristy souveniery things. Hope that helps!!!

That's the one---it's had several different names, they must change owners often.

I love the Diwali stores in Paris and like so many others have bought several scarves there. Sadly, I just lost my very favorite one this weekend. I've been trying to find a place to order another online.
Diwali doesn't seem to have a website, but does anybody know another online source?
