Santorini: Kamari or Perissa?

We're island hopping in late August with our 10-year-old son, and feel that it's probably best to stay near the beach, being more kid-friendly. Any suggestions pro/con on staying in Kamari or Perissa? Which general location do you prefer? Where did you stay? Did they have a pool? Thanks for your candid advice!

In August it will be extremely hot on these beaches, upwards of 110'F, since Perissa has black sand and Kamari has black rocks. Be sure to pack some flip-flops or better yet some of those reef walkers made from nylon webbing with rubber soles you can buy cheaply at WalMart. If you don't the bottoms of your feet will burn.

Kamri has more infrastructure than Perissia and will have more to do. You are likley to fry in either location.

Thanks for the info.... I suspect a hotel with a nice (i.e. kid-friendly and large-ish)pool will be more important than being on or near the beach. From info online, the Meltemi Village in Perissa looks like it may be an option. Anyone been there?

Looks good. Did you notice that they have a free waterpark for guests? That'll be great for a 10-year-old.

My husband is the one who found the hotel, and I think he liked the idea of a waterpark for himself as much as for our son!
