Santorini in 1 night- itinerary question
Hi. We have only 1 night in Santorini. I’m trying to pin down an itinerary while we are there, but I am getting stuck. And rather than spend a few more hours in the time-suck of the web, I thought I'd ask for advice.
We arrive Santorini via plane, will transfer to hotel in Oia and get there around 12. We basically have the afternoon, evening and then the morning the next day.
We are thinking of renting a scooter. My husband has driven a motorcycle in the past (25 years ago) and recently took a scooter class, so I’m thinking it will be OK. But I am getting a bit nervous about driving it in Santorini (and we are in our early 50s). Is it safe to drive it in Santorini (I'm sure lots of differing opinions on this)? Or maybe we don't even have time to rent a scooter (we could rent one in Naxos).
Afternoon and evening plans -- Some ideas, but not sure which one(s) to do. Any thoughts as to which would work out best, timing-wise?
- Walk around the town of Oia
- Walk along the caldera (but I have a bad foot and can’t do the whole 6-mile walk to Fira)
- Ride a scooter from Oia to Amoudi Bay
-Ride a scooter to Kamari or Parissa
- See the sunset with the masses and then get dinner in Oia afterwards at a non-sunset restaurant
- Or eat at a restaurant that has a view of the caldera and sunset?
- morning – not sure which of the above to do in the morning
return scooter, ferry to Naxos departs at 15:30 (need to get to ferry by 14:30 or 14:45)
Thank you!

I would not rent a scooter. The roads are narrow and some are winding, with busses and vans taking up over half the road, and people driving like idiots. No, thanks!
Walking the paved path along the caldera has stunning, postcard views. It’s a relatively flat walk. I was having problems with lower back nerve pain, but was able to walk it myself. Maybe walk Oia to Imerovigli, then cab back.
If you can walk further, we liked this little restaurant: La Maison. Right on the caldera with great views. Very small, so you need a reservation. http://www.lamaison-santorini.com/
Honestly, Santorini is a great place to have no itinerary. Just relax and look at the view.
