Santorini Hotels
Hi,
We'll be visiting Santorini in late Sept. for 3 days.

Can anyone comment on these hotels?

Katikies ($400/night - senior suite)
Perivolas ($36/night)
Atlantis Villa ($220/night)
Esperas ($260/night)
Leandros Suites ($100/night)

Katities and Perivolas look really wonderful but they are pricey. Are they worth staying given the high prices? Or should we go for Atlantis or Esperas instead? Or should we save money by staying with Leandros (has anyone stayed with them)?

Any comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

-J. NYC
Try www.sunrocks.com in season is approx. $150 eu. Most pictures you will see of Santorini are from this area. We just left 2wks ago & it is a beautiful place with unforgetable sunsets.

Hi,

Can't specifically comment on those but you might think about Mina Villas in Firostefani which is just about a 10 minute walk from Central Fira. My wife and I stayed there for three nights in May. We had a room with balcony, great view. Their pool is very pleasant. They have a site at www.minavillas.gr. The photos on the site do not do justice to the hotel as they have done additional upgrading around the pool especially. The owners, Lefteris and his daughter Joanna were very pleasant. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We spent quite a bit of time on the balcony enjoying the view looking over the caldera at sunset.

We came back from Greece last week. We stayed at Sunrocks on Santorini. Pros: it's a very nice place, great views of the caldera, the sea, the sunset, etc. You can get very inexpensive food by the pool if you want a late lunch (i.e. less than 3 euros for a greek salad and sandwiches!!), and it's about a 10-15 minutes walk into Fira.

Things to know before you go though: as space is limited there (don't know about the pricier hotels) they can lack pool chairs and this was a problem on one day, again only one day, but not exactly what you want to deal with when it's hot and you've been touring around, also, after visiting Oia, where Katikies and Perivolas are situated (don't know about the others you mentioned), we could understand why those were more. Oia is REALLY typical of the postcard picture. It's got the whole ambience going and different from Fira which is a bit more touristy as far as the shops go, Oia has mostly upscale artsy boutiques. Now we weren't there for the shopping, but you can't help to notice these things and the atmosphere really did embody the whole Greek postcard a bit more than Fira. Having said all that, Oia is a short bus ride away from Fira and we were not upset with our choice, but if you are looking for luxury, a hotel in Oia would be a good bet.

We also visited Naxos and Athens, so if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Stayed at Katikies last August on our honeymoon. Simple elegance; spectacular infinity pool (and other pools scattered about; perfect, friendly, and accommodating service. Oia is, by my opinion, the optimal location. And don't forget to go down the steps to Ammoudi. Lunch at Dmitri's Taverna on the little fishing harbor is a delightful way to eat splendidly, revel in the scenery, and enjoy the quieter side of Santorini. Friends of ours stayed at Perivolas in April, 2001, and had a marvelous time there. But Katikies has the better location, especially its proximity to the pedestrian walkway through Oia

Hi,

I have stayed at the Katikes and the Esperas. I did not pay as much as you are quoted, but we did not have a private jucuzzi. I loved both of these hotels. The infinity pool at the Katikes is spectacular. the rooms are graciously furnished. the Esperas had the most comfortable beds and the terrace for our room was huge. The pool was delighful and lovely, but not the infinity type. The Esperas was less expensive and just a touch less elegant than the Katikes. If the pool is what you are looking for stay at the Katikes and if money is an issue, try for a less expensive room. I am so glad I experienced the pool at the Katikies, but I would not pay $400 for the experience. We paid around $180. for a lovely room. Good luck
