Santorini Honeymoon Hotel Help

Hi! I'm trying to surprise my soon to be wife with a nice hotel for our honeymoon in Santorini. This part of the honeymoon I want to get us something nice. We will be flying in to Athens, transferring either to Naxos or Mykonos (haven't decided which will be better yet) for four nights and then Santorini for four more nights before returning to Athens. I'm looking for a nice hotel that'll bring a smile to my future-wife's eyes. Budget-wise we're going to splurge in Santorini, so I am aiming for 300 to 400 euros. I found the Santorini Grace (www.santorinigrace.com) which is gorgeous and has a Cadera room slighlty above my price range. I really like how there are private soaking pools for each room, however I was preferably looking for a hotel in Oia. Ideally I'd like to find a romantic hotel in Oia which each room has its own plunge pool, any suggestions? I know there are quite a few knowledgeable people on this forums boards about the Greek islands, thanks in advance for the help! I've searched and found that some of the favorites for Oia include Strogili Houses, Rimida Villas, Delfini Hotel, Lucky Homes, Villa Kallisti, Casa Sofia, Lauda Hotel, Filotera Villas, Fotinos Houses and Old Oia Houses. Any suggestions for the type of hotel I'm looking for with its own plunge pool?

Very few hotels have rooms with private pools, and those that do will be charging much more than your limit. An outdoor jacuzzi is a little more realistic. Take a look at the cavehouse suite of Delfini Hotel. Also check the Aqua Suite and Marine Suite at Oia Castle Hotel, Endless Blue at Aspaki Suites, Dream Blue at MyBlue, Onar Villas, Angel Cave Houses and Alexandros Villa at Marizan Villas.

Dear Greece,
How very romantic and sweet you are!!!
A small group of us were in Greece last September. We had the most awesome time. If you decide to stay in Athens overnight, The Divani Palace was very, very nice, with comfortable accommodations, a courteous staff, and a perfect location within walking distance to the Acropolis and the Plaka area.
If choosing between Naxos or Mykonos, my personal preference would be Mykonos, and that is just because...... Sometimes you just get a "feeling" for a certain place. Most of us loved it and wish we had had more time to spend there. We loved the beaches, restaurants, winding back streets. It has something for everyone's taste. It is both informal and upscale.
But we saved the best for last. Santorini was just awesome. The caldera, the views, the sunsets were just breathtaking. The locals are very sweet and very helpful.
However, we did not stay in Oia, but I do remember the Kirini Spa as being recommded by several tourists with whom we shared a memorable sunset experience. We stayed at the Majestic in Fira. While it did not offer personal plunge pools, the hotel was lovely, the staff was courteous, and the breakfasts were impressive and delicious.
But please do check out the Kirini. And, while strolling through Oia, you do realize it is more "upscale" than the other areas. There are more exclusive jewelry stores, boutiques and restaurants. Rumor has it that Brad and Angelina just bought there!!!
The local buses can get you through the main thorofare between Fira and Oia within 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. There are plentiful shoppes for both browsing and indulgences. If you are interested in ceramics and linens, Greece is the place! The restuarants and tavernas where we ate and drank provided delicious meals and desserts. I am Italian, and I have eaten Gelato all through Italy, but the ice cream in Greece is heavenly. In fact, we very much enjoyed Greek cuisine.
Good luck with your up coming wedding and honeymoon. I have no doubt that whatever you decide will be perfect.

Thanks Brotherleelove, I was hoping you'd respond! I've seen a lot of your prior posts and they've been really helpful! The Art Maison is beautiful...but unfortunately they are already booked for the dates I wanted. The rest of your suggestions were great, lots of good stuff. You're right about the private pool and price range, so now I'm shooting for a white cave domed room with a nice veranda with great cadera views. I've narrowed it down to the Superior Villa at La Perla or the Private Cave/Cave Villa Alexadros at Marizan Villas. What do you think? It might be nice to have a pool with La Perla. I'm still keeping the honeymoon suite at the Esperas, Perivolas (it's a huge budget stretch), and My Blue on the radar. Any advice would be superb. Thanks!

Thanks Goodluckgirl for all the info! Yeah, I'm still going back and forth about Naxos and Mykonos, but I'll take that into consideration. I'm a little set on Oia...I'll definitely take the wife to the spa at Kirini. Thanks.

If you go with Villa Alexandros you'll be right next door to the very nice public-access Lioyerma Cafe/Pool, which you can use for free as long as you purchase food/drink from them.

At Marizan you'll also have an unobstructed view of the sunset which you won't get at La Perla.

Hey Brotherlee...I'm still waiting to hear back from Marizan before I can book the hotel. In the meantime I was surfing around the forums and I found a few threads where you suggested the Esperas Villas and the Oia Mare. If I were to compare the Alexandros Villa at the Marizan to the honeymoon suites at the Esperas and the Mare, which would you suggest. The Mare's within price range and the Esperas stretches my budget a bit, but it's within reach. If I'm looking for the white dome cavehouse and an awesome veranda with a cadera view, what would you recommend. Thanks your insight is stellar.

These three hotels are effectively stacked one upon the other with Marizan at the top, so the views from Marizan are going to be the best, especially if you want a sunset view _and_ a caldera view. Esperas is an excellent hotel but for the money I still think Marizan is a better deal. Oia Mare is fine but you'd better be in good shape because there are more steps needed to reach that one than any other hotel in Oia.

Thanks for the quick response! I'm still waiting for Marizan to reply back to me, so in the meantime I have some time to decide. Some of the photos of the Alexandros Villa look a bit dark, that's what made me wonder...but maybe I'm just wrongly looking at it. Thanks for your input, you're right the Marizan is the best deal out of all of them. I'll wait to hear back from them.

Well, don't forget it's a cave. Caves are dark and the only light comes in the front door and a small window or two.
