Salzburg to Venice by train

I need help. Trying to make a reservation on a train from Salzburg to Venice and the OBB site I fuond starts in English and then switches to German for the actual purchase. I don't want to purchase the rail pass. How do I purchase a ticket for this? Thanks.

Try using www.bahn.de.

If you click on "Guests" in the upper right-hand corner, the whole procedure stays in English. The only thing you have to enter in German is "Venedig" (for Venice). It will query that, but choose "Venedig" again. There is a direct EC train with compulsory seat reservation for some 68 Euro.

Hi 03,

Have you tried www.trenitalia.com?

The 01:38 arrives Venice at 08:45
A dbl sleeper is about 58E pp.
They will mail you your tickets.

Hi Eloise,

You were able to purchase tickets from Salzburg, Austria to Venice, Italy online at the German train site www.bahn.de?

All I get is "international travel" in both English and German, and an X through the purchase icon.

Hi 03,

Upon further research, I find that the Trenitalia site is getting hung up on telephone numbers, even a working Italian number.

Sorry.

Ira,

I got as far as "Order", with a price indicated. Since I am not traveling from Salzburg to Venice, I saw no reason to actually purchase a ticket.

Thanks. Trenitalia would work great except my son wants to travel on the night train instead of wasting a day. This is the site I was on that went from English to purchasing in German. I'll have to try again.

Hi 03,

I went to your link.

The 21:04 is marked.
This trip requires 2 changes of trains (one at 03:12), and arrives at 05:03

Wouldn't the 01:38 direct train arriving Venice San Lucia at 08:45 be better?

You can work your way through the German language part by using http://www.freetranslation.com/

Unfortunately the OBB site has given up for now, so I can't go further, but there is a box for tickets by email.

This might work.

Also check to see that he is getting a couchette instead of just a seat.

How long will he be in Austria before leaving for Venice?

Hi 03,

It's working.

You can't get your tickets via e mail for this route.

When you click "ticket by post" you get a new screen.

Click "buchen". You get a new screen

In the first box highlight "Salzburg"
In the second, highlight "Venezia San Lucia"
In the third, highlight age (26-59 or 15-25)
In the next box enter day of departure
Skip the next box
Change "Ja" to "Nein"
Choose your credit card type
Click the box with red letters
New Screen to choose your accomodations
They are:
2cl seat
2cl 6 person couchette
2cl 4 person couchette ***
3 person compartment
2 person compartment
2 person compartment with shower and toilet
single compartment
single compartment with shower and toilet.
Click "weiter im ....."
New Screen
Enter Last name
First name
email
CC info
Check the box for the red letters
click "weiter...."

Since I don't wish to buy a ticket, you are on your own from here.

Use http://ets.freetranslation.com/ to help translate.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. For some reason a price cannot be made available. I had to go to RailSaver and they are supposed to email me a price on this trip. There is a price from Salzburg to the connection but not to Venice. Thanks for your help. Hopefully this works out online because I'm not sure how full the train will be if he has to book in Munich before he leaves for Salzburg (in August). He will be in Munich 2 nights and Salzburg 1 night before leaving for Venice.

We took the train from Venice to Salzburg last summer. We didn't purchase our tickets until we were in Italy, a few days before we left. The train was not full (this was in late July) on the day time routing. If you request booking via Tarvisio or Villach, the route is considerably shofter. Good luck.
