Salzburg Hotels

<BR>I'm somewhat contrained on the budget, but don't want to go too low end. Looking for a clean, safe place that's not too far out of the city center. Is it realistic to expect to find something decent for around $100 a night (double room with private bath) in Aug?

I doubt that you will be able to find much at that price during August.. As you probably know that is the month of their famous Music Festival and most of the hotels really push their rates up at that time. You might try the Mercure chain, I think it is about $130 per night. It is pretty bare bones and small, but I think their beds are O.K.

You might try the Trumer Stube; we stayed there last year for $85 (approx), but it wasn't during the music festival. It's only a couple of blocks from the old town, in a nice location. Our room was much smaller than the one shown on the website.<BR><BR>http://members.eunet.at/hotel.trumer-stube.sbg/

I stayed at the Romerwirt (Nontaler Hauptstrasse 47). Inexpensive, just outside the old city, at a bus stop

I second the Trumer Stube. We stayed there during the music festival and it was very nice and well located, near the Mirabelle Gardens.

The Trumer Stube is definately for the budget conscious, the room was small, the bathroom was closet sized, the morning breakfast was meager with Gusippe (owner) hovering over the platters making you feel very unwelcome, no telephone in the room or available at the front desk, no night staff. Notes posted said don't leave the lights in your room, we take cash only as we are a small hotel, in case of fire run down to the nearest telephone booth and call the fire dept. It was recommended to us, but I cannot give a recommendation here, I paid about $140 cdn during high season.

You might try the Hotel Stiglbrau. It is located near the Mirabela Gardens, has nice clean modern rooms and a nice beer garten and restaurant on site.<BR><BR>US<BR><BR>Also I'd suggest Zum Hirschen, but it is a little further from the old town.

I don't know about August availability, but we stayed at the Hotel Adlerhof, 25 Elisabethstrasse, near the train station, and were quite pleased. We booked the room at the tourist offie at the station, but you may be able to find info at http://www.gosalzburg.com/reception.htm. <BR>Reasonably priced, courteous staff, and the walk into the heart of Salzburg isn't long at all, with several decent restaurants en route.

My sister, daughter and I stayed at the Am Dom in Salzburg in April. It is located on Gold Gasse and is an old, lovely, small hotel close to the Residence Square and convenient to all the major attractions. We had a large triple room and bath. The price was less than $100 per night, but I expect would be higher in August, but you might want to inquire. I highly recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

Check out the Hotel Goldenen Ente, also on Goldgasse. Seems to me it would be in your price range.

We stayed at the Golden Krone, which was about $85 a night. The rooms were quite nice - spacious and clean. The location was ideal, right on a pedestrian street just across from the old city.
