Salisbury,England

Can someone recommend an inexpensive BB for this area. Would you find enough to spend two nights in Salisbury?

Hi! I loved Salisbury. The town is wonderful to walk around in. For 2 days, you can tour around the town in a leisurely fashion, see Stonehenge nearby, and really enjoy it. Try to be there on Tuesday or Saturday for the open market in the town square - wonderfull cheap breads and cheeses and meats etc - we made a picnic. The cathedral is amazing, the pubs are fun.

We stayed at the Byways House. It is a very cute B&B on a side street about 5 minutes from the town square. Nice quiet street. You can find it on www.smoothhound.co.uk - type in Salisbury in the town and then scroll down until you see it. It is quite reasonable - especially for the location.

www.smoothhound.co.uk has lots of other options as well - so it's a great resource.

Have fun!

Salisbury has perhaps the most beautiful Cathedral in Britain. Unusually, it is surrounded by plenty of open space so you can really see it all as a whole.

There's plenty to do in the Salisbury area for a couple of days. I've got some photos from Salisbury, Avebury, Stonehenge, Old Sarum at http://pages.prodigy.net.

I won't make a lodging recommendation, since the place I stayed wasn't that great.

The Tourist Information in Salisbury will find you a room for a small fee. If you're not going during peak season you can wait until you get there to get a room.

Here is a note I picked out of my England trip report:
On to Salisbury but couldn't figure out how to get to the town center so we decided to skip it. Selected a B&B (Newton's Farmhouse, Whiteparish) on the way out of town (about 8 miles) and that turned out great. Had a little rear cottage room, ground level, parked right in front. Went into the little town of Whiteparish for a great dinner and dessert - a real treat (I think it is named King's Arms or close). Such nice people. It's 9:00 pm now and I'm sitting outside our cottage on a bench and just enjoying the atmosphere. They have a huge backyard with a pool and a horse in the back. The owners are plant/flower enthusiasts so the place is blooming all over. Very rural.

Thursday, June 10 - decided to stay another night; so comfortable in this B&B and give Salisbury another shot. The owners gave us good directions and where to park so it was easy this time. The hardest part of a driving trip is knowing where to park closest to the sites. Salisbury Cathedral was excellent.
I can't say enough good things about this "detour" and B&B to see Salisbury. It's so close and yet so great. If you'd like, I could cut out my trip in this area and e-mail it to you. [email protected]

Oops, didn't remember you asked about price but since I travel "cheap" I'm sure the price was good. One of these days I'll remember to write down what I paid!
