Ryanair - is it really cheaper? (when everything is factored)
I am contemplating a Ryanair flight from Treviso to Rome. The alternative is to take a train to Rome, which costs more, takes longer, but is maybe more pleasant? And is the train really that much more expensive or slower when you think it through? Ryanair fare starts at 7.99 Euro each ticket, then adds in airport fees so that in the end the plane ticket costs about 25 Euro each, 50.88 Euro total for my wife and myself. Add to this the transport fee and time in transit to Treviso, and from Ciampino, will we really be saving any money (or time) flying Ryanair?

Hi Ira, On the day in question I'll be starting from Venice, staying in an apartment called "San Aponal" from Venice Rental. I stayed there several years ago, liked it a lot. My destination is Rome, near Plazza Navona. Do you, or anyone, know how long it takes to travel from Venice to Treviso airport, and from Ciampino airport in Rome to the town center? Cost of shuttles? When flying, you must not only factor in the time it will take to get to the airport (usually a LOT longer than getting to a train station, depending on where you're staying) but you must also remember that you need to be at the airport an hour or more before the flight, as opposed to a minute or two before a train. Then add in the time at the arrival end with transport too, and you start seeing that door to door, even the time savings aren't so great either.
I regard flying as a hassle -- with checkins, security, and waiting. Trains are so pleasant and relaxing, and you aren't jammed in unable to move for the trip either.
