Rustic Old World Charm lodging in Tuscany.....help!

Please help us find the perfect lodging.... rustic old world charm (preferably an old farmhouse/estate made of stone) in the Tuscan/Umbria region.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

We found exactly that on a website of a German or swiss tour operator that does mostly rustiv villas and stuff called interchalet.ch or try interhome.com. They have great options

A friend and I stayed at La Costa, see www.lacosta.it/ in Montefollonico, approx. 15 mins. by car from Montelpulciano, as well as Tenuta Quadrifoglio, www.tenutaquadrifoglio.it/, again about 15 mins. from San Gimignano.

Both are charming, affordable, with wonderful views and friendly owners and staff. Highly recommend both.

How many of you are there? There are many examples of what you seek on www.greve-in-chianti.com, but if you have a group look at the second photo from the top here: http://www.panzano.com/eleonora.htm

A couple years ago my husband and I spent a night at Il Cantico della Natura near Perugia (see http://www.agriturismo.it/IlCanticod...ra/enindex.asp). It was amazing! Gorgeous restored stone house with very romantic rooms, plus an incredible view, lovely pool, and many walking paths through the surrounding woods. It seemed to be frequented mainly by Italians and served wonderful, authentic meals. It was a little out of the way (down a winding dirt road) for use as a base for day trips, but still well located. We loved it!

Take a look at Hotel Salivolpi in Castellina in Chianti. It's an old farmhouse made into a hotel. Very reasonable and nicely located.

Again, thank you all for your suggestions.

Abbydog...Grazie for Il Cantico link. EXACTLY what we are looking for....and great prices to boot. We've found some possibilities in the other regions we were travelling, but none in Umbria, until now. GRAZIE!

Oh, you have made me so happy! It's rare that I have a chance to share info on this place. Also, the owner used to send out periodic emails about special offers (with a very poetic and romantic flair), so if you get in touch with him you might want to ask to be included on his mailing list.

Abbydog...

Can I pick your brain about what areas you explored while staying at Il Cantico? I'm thinking we'll probably just hang out at the property for a few days and enjoy it....but I'm thinking we'll need to squeeze in at least one day trip.

Thx!

Oh, I'm afraid there's not much to pick in my brain. We actually stayed there for one night en route to a house we were sharing in Vivo Val D'Orcia, at the base of Monte Amiata. We had just enough time to spend a day in Perugia, which is very very interesting. The agriturismo also is very near Lake Trasimeno, but we just drove by it on our way to Tuscany.

Check out http://www.toskana.net/castellobibbi...ages/album.htm. My wife and I and two other couples stayed at the Castle of Bibbione about 4 years ago. We loved it. Very remote. Very quiet.

We stayed at an old stone b&b farmhouse in Panzano called Fagliori. Beautiful spot, on a dirt road in the middle of vinyards and woods.

Okay, now to add more to the mix:

In Tuscany, check out this B&B agriturismo, with antique roses, vineyards and swallows nesting in the laundry-house:
Podere Torre; access it through the greve-in-chianti.com site -- look under rural accommodations or under B&Bs

In Umbria, check out this agriturismo, with its award winning organic olive oil, lovely views and nice little swimming pool:
lecasegialle.com

Both situated in rustic stone farmhouses with nice owners, great views, peace, and good nearby restaurants...
