An update. Today I got my passport with Visa back from Visa Services. It took a little over 4 weeks total from the time I sent it till I got it back. I still would have preferred to be able to get it myself at the Russian consulate and have saved $88. And as I said originally, I still don't know what kind of mistake I'd make on the form -- I certainly didn't make one on the form to Visa Services which was essentially the same as the one for the consulate.

But at least it's done and now I have my passport back.

I'm glad you have your Visa and you are good to go. Too bad it's such a pain in the rear to do it yourself. Enjoy your trip.

Wow, that seems like ages! Last summer, mine was there and back in 7 days using a service. Maybe there's a rush to get them done before the new rules take effect.
