Another rule, or non-rule, of Italian etiquette that I don't think we mentioned yet above is that sending greeting cards is not that common. so while among Americans it might be rude not to send a card in certain situations, or not to reciprocate when someone sends you a card, it isn't necessarily rude in Italy.
