Ronda, Tarifa or Vejer de la Frontera

Hello Fellow Fodorites:

My husband and I are planning a late October trip to Spain and Morocco but wouldn't consider firming up our plans without consulting you!

Here's the itinerary so far.

2 nights Barcelona (fly to Marrakech)

3 nights Marrakech (fly to Granada)

2 nights Granada (here's the part we're unsure of)

2 nights Ronda, Tarifa or Vejer de la Frontera???? (drive to Seville)

2 nights Seville (fast train to Madrid)

3 nights Madrid (reluctantly fly back to US)

Which town is best as a stop over for 2 nights between Granada and Seville?

Any sage advice would be welcome.

Thanks!

Of the three choices, I vote for Ronda. Have you considered only staying one night there, and adding a night to Seville? A scenic drive from Ronda would be through Arcos de la Frontera on the way to Seville.

Thank you for your response! I gather there is little to do in the white villages that would keep us for more than a day or two? Also, I understand that much of Seville has been under construction or undergoing renovation. Will most of the work be done by next fall?

Another vote for Ronda. I loved Vejer de la Frontera, but would consider this a day trip, and Tarifa was nice, but not anywhere as nice as Ronda IMO.

Thanks for your response. Do you think Ronda is worth one night or two?

We just returned from Spain and we spent 2 nights in Marbella and took a day trip to Ronda. Ronda was a highlight of the trip, however, I think 1 night and a full day is plenty of time to see the town as it is small. The drive from Marbella to Ronda is very pretty thru the mountainous roads. With some beautiful views of the med from the hills as you drive past beautiful golf courses and million dollar homes. The bridge connecting the two halfs of Ronda is fantastic. Like no town I have ever seen.

Consider staying in Carmona. It is a beautiful old town with three nice hotels and lots to see and right in the middle between Sevilla and Cordoba (which is much more impressive than Sevilla). So maybe one night in Ronda and three nights in Carmona: one daytrip to Cordoba, one to Sevilla and one day for Carmona itsself.

I found the attached article on the internet that stated there were flights between Granada and Marrakech on Fridays. Is that no longer the case?
