Hi all. I've never made note of past threads where someone has mentioned this, as a) I really have no interest in shoes and b) they don't really carry my size (10W).

However, I am returning next month with my cousin, and SHE is interested in buying shoes in Italy. I'm guessing she wears around size 8.

Can anyone recommend good (inexpensive would be great) place to buy shoes in Rome? And what could she expect to pay for a pair of heels or pumps?

We are staying Piazza Navona area, but we will pretty much be all over town (Borghese to Colosseum to Vatican).

we were in Rome about a year ago, and had no difficulty finding shoe shops when we needed them for our son who had managed to pack only two pairs both of which fell to bits in the first couple of days.

in the end he bought 2 pairs and I bought one. [pair that is]. The shop where we got the cheapest ones [€20] was near the piazza del popolo, and the other was near our apartment at the end of the via coronari.[they were €50 each] but really, you will find reasonable shoe shops everywhere - just stay away from the high-end ones, unless you want spend a fortune.

sarge56: Good question! I hope you get lots of answers as I am going to be in Rome in April, also in Piazza Navona area, and would like to do some shoe shopping too.

I’ve gotten a couple of pairs right there at the Trevi Fountain. I think the store’s name might be Sole (or something very close to that). As you’re facing the fountain, it’s behind you on the left, toward the end. Lots of styles, not particularly expensive. Don’t believe them when they tell you they’re made in Italy, though. Mine were from India, then Moldova, respectively.

I think that the shopping is really a personal thing. You are going to stay near piazza Navona, so you are very closed by the main shopping area that is situated in via del corso and all around the narrow streets departing from there. The streets closer to the Spanish Steps are more expensive. Another good area is via Nazionale situated from the piazza Esedra (Termini station)and the Quirinale (behind the Trajan Market). Another solution, maybe the best, could be to reach a Mall. Those are out of the center, but, the Parco Leonardo (200 different shops on the way to the airport)and the EUROMA (one of the best, in EUR dep.)are easily connected by the pubblic transportation.

You might try Zara, the department store.

Quality shoes in Italy are not inexpensive, especially with the exchange. I have seen less pricey shoe stores in Trastevere.

Dozens of show stores along the Via del Corso. Moderate price ranges.

Dozens of designer shoe stores in the Spanish Steps, Trident area.

YOu will have no problem finding shoe stores in Rome.
