Rome Restaurant Help
We need suggestions of restaurants (no more than 100 Euros for 2) for our upcoming trip.
Specifically, one for our first night near our hotel in the Pantheon area. And another for our second night when we are meeting friends who are staying near the Spanish Steps.
Any help would be appreciated.

With or without wine? With house wine, Armando al Pantheon, salita dei Crescenzi 31, should be in your price range. It's a Slow Food recommendation, and I have found their recommendations reliable. There's also Settimio al Pantheon, via delle Colonelle 14. It would be wise to make reservations for either, unless you go very early.
The restaurants in the Spanish Steps area tend to be quite touristy, but there is Settimio all'Arancio at via dell'Arancio 50/52. Two others that I have found quite acceptable are Da Mario, via delle Vita 55, and Otello alla Concordia, via della Croce 81. Al 34 is recommended by some, but I've also seen some very negative reviews of it as well as of Toto alle Carrozze. Again, reservations would be a good idea for Settimio, Da Mario or Otello.
Reservations can generally be made the same day.

In 7 trips to Rome, I've always stayed near the Spanish Steps, and I'm sorry to say, I've eaten in each of the "Spanish Steps" restaurants Eloise has mentioned, and would not recommend any of them. I can recommend, however, La Buca di Ripetta at 36 via di Ripetta, Il Margutta Ristorante at 118 via di Margutta, or Nino at 11 via Borgognona.

I have to put in a word for Myosotis, a short walk from the Pantheon. Really wonderful food, a sweet husband/wife team, a very knowledgeable sommelier. Not fancy, but nice. I had a wonderful meal there on their sidewalk, watching the activities of a lively piazza.
If you scroll down, there is a little blurb about them:

Here's a link to 6 restaurants in Rome my husband and I enjoyed - there are two restaurants in the areas you're interested in - near the Pantheon (between it and Plaza Colonna) is Osteria dell'Ingegno - we REALLY enjoyed their cuisine and it was quite good value.
Near the Spanish Steps is Ristorante Alla Rampa - very touristy looking but a wonderful antipasti bar and lovely pasta to order (but you won't need to order!)

A few blocks northwest of Piazza Spagna is 'Gusto, a restaurant-bar-wine shop-kitchen supply. I've eaten there several times. One can get the wine of the day by the glass or carafe and a plate of salumi or various cheeses for about ten bucks or a sit dowh dinner for fifty per including house wine. A very happening place (recently in a US food mag so it will probably be ruined soon). At the corner of via della Frezza and via del Corea.

For Pantheon area, we really enjoyed both Il Bacaro and Orso 80. At Il Bacaro, our total (not including service) was just under 200 euros for SEVEN PEOPLE. We had a table full of antipasti, either pasta or a secondi for each of us, plus three bottles of good wine. Very good value in a very nice place. (27 Via degli Spagnoli)
Orso 80 was great too. More than ample quantities of simple, delicious food with house wine came to just over 100 euros for all four of us! (33 Via dell Orso)
We also ate at Gusto in the chi chi upstairs restaurant, but frankly weren't all that impressed. While some of the dishes were exquisitely prepared, others were just okay. Portions were miniscule and the general ambience was a bit sterile. Nevertheless, our bill for four people was under 150 euros, including one antipasto (should have ordered more, because it was tasty, but tiny!), four entrees, two desserts, a bottle of wine and mineral water.
Wherever you go, buon appetito!
