Rome - Navona Gallery Suites

Has anyone here on Fodor's stayed at this B and B in Rome? We are thinking of renting both the Bernini and Borromini Suites with the shared kitchen area. Both the Navona Gallery and Garden Suites get rave reviews on Trip Advisor but I am hoping that some Fodorites might have stayed here also. If so, how was your experience? I understand the Bernini is a large room and the Borromini is somewhat smaller. Is the Borromini roomy enough for two adults?

Thanks, in advance, if you have info to share about this place.

We stayed in the Borromini Suite in Sept 2007 and were very happy with the accomodations. The room is not large, but plenty big enough for two adults, and we loved the litle balcony with a bistro table and two chairs. Granted it only overlooks the non-landscaped courtyard, but I enjoyed getting my breakfast from the little kitchen and eating on the balcony. They keep the fridge stocked with snacks and drinks, and it was handy to have a place to keep our wine purchases chilled. And you just can't beat the location of the place - we thought it was perfect and would definitely go back!

Thank you, hazel1.

I was confused that a reviewer said the Borromini was a small room because the size given on the website indicates it is 550 square feet which would make it quite large. Perhaps they include the kitchen, bathroom (which I read was larger than the Bernini bathroom, hall and also the balcony. I have since learned the bedroom itself is about 4 m x 4m which in feet would be a little larger than 13 by 13 so about 170 square feet which is not that small. I know the other suite is larger.

Was the bed comfortable?

Were the breakfast foods more than just a snack? I read they included bread, croissants, cheeses, meats, eggs, cereals, yogurt, milk, fruit, and other things and also wine!

We did not want to go to a hotel this time (this is our 4th or 5th time to Rome), although we had private roof top terraces at the last hotel we stayed at. WE will have to find a hotel with a roof top bar!

Also, this time we wanted to be closer to Piazza Navona and the area. Most full apartments required more than a 4 night stay. I understand the best thing about the suites is the location.

Thanks for your response. There must be a few more out there who have stayed here, too.

We had both the Bernini and the Borromini in Feb. 07 for 4 nights and loved it. The location was fantastic...just out the door was everything you could want or walk to. There is a difference in the size of the rooms...can't remember which is which but we were two couples that have known each other for 30 years so we used the larger room with the sofa and table when we needed to spread out a little. We loved the little kitchen...it had a great expresso maker and lots of wonderful cheeses/salamis/milk/etc. in the refrig and a basket of fresh fruit/rolls etc...everything we needed for breakfast or quick snacks. The bed was very comfortable as I recall and the bathrooms very nice and plenty of hot water...hope this helps...I would love to go back.

Thank you, AlReady2Go. It sounds like you really enjoyed staying there.

I need to make my decision soon. The smaller room, the Borromini, must be larger than a standard double in Rome so it shuld be fine. We found out that there is a special rate if you rent the entire suite - per couple it would be less than the cost of a standard double in most Rome hotels.

Glad to help...the Borromini room wasn't huge but it was fine and the bathroom was a good size. With the extra room in the Bernini and the kitchen area we had plenty of room for the 4 of us...we didn't feel cramped at all...and with such a wonderful area to be in we were out most of the time anyway...but did enjoy relaxing in the kitchen, making coffee and planning our days out. Have a great time and I'm glad there's a discount for taking the whole place...I can't remember if that was the case for us, but will remember that for next time.

Thank you, AlReady2Go! I appreciate the information.

For our other visits to Rome, we stayed in hotels so this will be something different. I am sure we will be happy with the suites.

Now, we need to find a nice roof-top terrace restaurant or bar. On our last visit to Rome with our son and his then fiance now wife, we had hotel rooms with a private roof-top terrace and it was very nice!

Hazel1 and AlReady2Go and anyone else, did you have a chance to check out the Michelangelo Suite? I am thinking that this might be more spacious for 4 of us than the Bernini/Borromini Suite. I understand that there is one bedroom and the two twins in the hall way but there are two bathrooms and the living/kitchen area looks spacious plus there is a terrace.

I would appreciate your feedback on the Michelangelo Suite vs. the other apartment.

We just returned from our trip to Italy.

We enjoyed our few nights at the Navona Gallery Suites. Everyone there wanted to make sure we were happy during our stay. Giampiero, the owner, and Linda (who greets you upon arrival serves as a concierge)were helpful and gracious. The location was fabulous - a step out of the huge entrance door and you were close to numerous restaurants and a short walk from Piazza Navona.

Accommodations were fine but the website photos show them as a bit more elegant than they really are. Bathrooms were great but both the Bernini (very large room) and Borromini (smaller room) could use a bit of re-decorating to make them more as they are described on the webiste. The Borromini could use better lighting as the only window was on the door to the small balcony. The mattress in the Borromini was a bit uncomfortably firm and we like firm mattresses so it was a little too firm. However, even with these few things, our stay was very pleasant.

Both rooms were spotlessly clean (thanks to the lovely Carmella) and kitchen fridge was well-stocked with food items (salami, ham, cheeses, cornettos, breads, cereal, jams, etc), drinks (soda, juices, prosecco, a bottle of wine as a special gift, beer) and snacks (cookies, crackers). We did not use the small kitchen much at all - only to boil water for tea and to make coffee.

We did stay one night at the Garden Suites (same building) and would probably stay there again. These ground level rooms had spectacular bathrooms and were very spacious with two large beds in each room and nicely decorated and, again, spotlessly clean. They had a lovely shared garden area for relaxation with comfortable outdoor chairs and a table. The mattresses here were extremely comfortable. The small fridge was stocked food (mainly for our departure breakfast but I'm sure if you stayed longer it would be filled as the other one was) and the rooms were equipped for making coffee and tea. These rooms had flat screen TVs and updated AC units. The only thing to take into consideration here is that the entrance and garden area outside of the rooms are all shared by the dentist office so you don't have it all to yourself.

So, all in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Navona Gallery and Garden Suites.
