elaine,

I don't think the location of the Hotel River Palace is ideal, but the hotel itself does get good on Tripadvisor.

I humbly suggest you look for something more central. Get a map of Rome and draw a circle 1/2 mile in diameter with the Pantheon at the center. Look at hotels "inside the circle".

James,

Interesting first post, Let's see if you plug that website on your second one.

My math needs help. I meant a circle with 1/2 mile RADIUS with the Pantheon at the center.

James891 - Why would you leap to recommend an apartment without knowing a thing about the poster's trip? If this is a first-time trip to Rome and/or Italy, it is often a lot more comfortable for someone to have the resources of the front desk available to make recommendations and restaurant reservations, not to mention the ease of booking a hotel room itself vs. an apartment. That said, I think apartments are a terrific option when your stay is more than just a few days or involves a large enough group of people to require more than one room, and one feels comfortable enough to be "on their own".

Sorry Hazel, i didn't know is your firs time to Rome. I suggested the apartment because is more than 3 years that when i travel with my family i book always an apartment instead of hotel because are cheaper and the agency can be as well a good front desk, aswell i can find larger apartment were al my family can stay comfrotable. I just made a suggestion you may consider.
As a hotel i can suggest you as follow:
http://www.boscolohotels.com/eng/hot...hotel-rome.htm
http://www.hotelforumrome.com/ (great position!!)
http://www.fortysevenhotel.com/ (good price - quality)
Take care and enjoy Rome is great!!!
