My husband, our son and I are travelling to Rome in October for a wedding. We are only going to be there for four days. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good b&b or hotel that is not too expensive. We really would not like to spend more than 100 euro a night. Our son will be 10 months old in October so he is small and sleeps in our bed with us. We need to be near the Vatican because that is where our family will be staying as well. I was also wondering what the weather is like there in October? We currently live in Ireland and are used to cold, rainy and changing weather. I am just wondering if it will still be warm there? I am also wondering what anyone can recommend seeing while there?? I know I would like to see the Vatican itself, the museum and St. Peter's. Any other recommendations? Also what is the best way to travel? Taxi? Bus? Metro? Any and all recommendations are welcome and so appreciated. We have never been to Italy. I know that I would like to go in Prada

Weather in October is not likely to be cold; it may be rainy.

If you are looking to save money, use the Metro and the buses.

There is a Prada store on Via Condotti, in the high-end designer area. You can take the Metro from the Vatican to the Spagna stop to get there.

A guidebook might be a worthwhile investment.

I've found October to be a wonderful time to be in Rome . . . as already mentioned, you may encounter rain (or not), but temps will be comfortable.

Public transit options will depend on what area you stay in. there is a metro stop that you can use north of VAtican City. In general our family has found that the buses are better for getting around the historic area of the city (the Metro circles this central area)

Rome in October should be beautiful. It's normally 70's (f) during the day but cooler in the morning and evenings. I would suggest layering your clothes so you can "shed" some during the day as it warms. Of course, there's no way to know what you will get, so always check the weather websites a week or so leading up to the trip to really be prepared.

Light layers are definitely the way to go, and take a couple of water-proof items like an umbrella and a rain jacket.

As other posters to this thread have mentioned, it's a lovely time of year; September still tends to be heavy with tourists, but things thin out in October and you are usually not overwhelmed with heat and humidity, which is nice.

Oct is a great month for Rome. Cool but great mornings and evenings with warm late mornings to early evening. The later in Oct you go, the cooler it will be, but still great. The hot haze of late Aug and September is gone and fellow tourists have thinned out leaving you and all the gelato in Rome. Once you know the location of your hotel/apartment, with good planning, you can see most of the major sites in three days. Just don't try to see "too" much, leave yourself time to enjoy and savor what you are seeing. You can see the rest on your 2nd, 3rd and 4th trips. Have a great visit and a great vacation....
