I am travelling to Rome next week for a soccer match &amp; wondered if any of you rome regulars know of a good place to stay in easy reach of the olympic stadium &amp; also the city centre.<BR>Any comments on distance between the two &amp; distance from the airport would be much appreciated.<BR><BR>best regards <BR><BR>mark<BR>parishuttle<BR>

This is a question that could be answered so much more easily if it were possible to include a picture/image (map) with the answer. The website www.travel-board.com permits that. Let's say that it's somewhere in the general vicinty of Piazza Venezia. It's only 6.4 km from there to Stadio Olimpico, according to www.mappy.com, as opposed to 31 km to the airport in Fiumicino. the stadium is roughly straight north of the Vatican, or NNW from Piazza Venezia.<BR><BR>The Olympic stadium would be just off the map about at 11 o'clock on the map at the URL cited above. The Vatican is easily identified at about 8 o'clock. Piazza Venezia qwould be at about 6 o'clock. The big green area in the center is Villa Borghese and its surrounding park lands.<BR><BR>So, depending on where, exactly you want to be near, as far as the city &quot;centre&quot;, I think that many hotels in the Centro Storico, or especially on the north, towards the Tiber in the vague general direction of the Vatican would work.<BR><BR>I am guessing that you are not thinking of using a private car to go from hotel to stadium or to/from attractions in central Rome. It's going to be best to use taxi or other public transport wherever you stay.<BR><BR>So, I think that most of the &quot;usual&quot; hotels in the typical tourist concentration (Pantheon/Navona/Spagna/Borghese) will be good choices, and that location might not necessarily be the critical factor to choose one over another.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

LOL! You're very welcome, mark<BR><BR>A shuttle, of course! Actually, there are a number of threads on arranged drivers. I'll see if I can locate some for you.<BR><BR>Taxi is not prohibitively expensive, but as with Paris, hardly the best choice for a solo traveler.<BR><BR>There is good and inexpensive train service from Fiumicino to Termini, and then taxis are quite affordable to any of the principal hotel areas in the center of Rome.<BR>
