Rome - day trips

My husband and I are planning a trip to Rome for 6 or 7 days in early May. My husband would like to see the Amalfi coast. Does anyone know of tours which would include Amalfi and Positano, perhaps? I would like to go to Assisi- would taking a train there for a day be feasable?
Thanks so much for your suggestions.

I made a connection for a Rome tour that we are considering through a company called Rome Connections. Here is their Trip Advisor link:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...ome_Lazio.html

I found them through a Trip Advisor iPhone application. I've been in contact with the owner regarding a one-day tour of Rome. In his information that he sent me, it shows a trip via van with English speaking guide to Amalfi coast.

We are staying in the Amalfi coast in August. Would love to hear your feed back on your return.

Safe travels!

the amalfi is a long way for a day trip, but not impossible.

however, if you are only there for 6-7 days, and you are going to the amalfi for one very long day, you probably won't want to do any other trips.

as an alternative, Orvieto is a very nice day trip and easily accessible by train; Tivoli and the gardens of the Villa D'este would also be lovely in May.

We did Assisi as a day trip - in the end we wished we had had spent the night for a more leisurely experience. We went on our own by train - I think there are tour companies that might be convenient (tho more expensive). We also did Pompeii with a tour from Rome. If you are staying 6 or 7 days I would really advise you to pick one of the options and stay overnight. If you return to the same Rome hotel, I would think you could leave your luggage there and just take an overnight bag - of course you still have to pack up and leave the room! Maybe find an apartment that is cheap enough to just leave for the night.
