Rome-Assisi Escorted Day Trips

Looking to go to Assisi for my anniversary when I go to Italy this September (plan to do this from Rome).
Has anybody used any of the tour companies out of Rome to do this? I have looked at Enjoyrome and Travel-Italy, but would like to now what the experienced travellers in this fine forum think is best!
Many thanks in advance...
Melissa

Hi Melissa
The best way to travel Rome-Assisi is by train. When you get here there are lots of alternatives of how to get around.
Have a look here - this is one of them, you can be picked up at the train station:
http://www.italywithus.biz/main_pages/services.htm
Hello Melissa,

All the main coach companies offer Assisi as a day-trip, - usually with a stop at Orvieto.

Since they offer a similar tour at similar prices the difference between them will, I would think, depend almost entirely on the guide, - and that's the luck of the draw.

Here are a few tour companies to compareBR>
www.adv.it/vastours/english.htm
www.appianline.it/panorama.htm
www.romeguide.it/CARRANI/default.html
www.romeguide.it/greenline/greenline_eng.htm

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Good mornin, Melissa
Did take a Carrani bus day trip to Assisi. The bus portion was warm as
the bus was air cooled, not a/c. Had
a very exceptional lunch in the Windsor
Savoia Hotel overlooking the land below.
The most impressive thing of the whole
tour was the local Assisi Guide, who
was perfect, and very enjoyable.
Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..

The only reasons to take a bus tour from Rome to Assisi are if you want to stop on the way and also save about $100. That is what you would spend extra above the price of the tour if you wanted to have a private day tour.

The train takes just over 2 hours - it is more direct and gives you more time to enjoy Assisi and some of the beautiful places that surround it such as San Damiano and the hermitage.
