Rome -area to stay?
We have one night in Rome in early September and are looking for somewhere to stay. I'd like to stay in a "new" area having recently stayed on Via Ripetta, Via Salaria and intending to stay in Trastavere next Feb.
Essentials are quiet room and air conditioning.
I'd like to stay somewhere with character for up to 200euros.
There are so many places on the net that I'm not sure where to start.
Can any of you recommend anywhere please?
With thanks

I enjoyed staying in the Monti area (via Serpentina) which is more of a working area, but walking distance to the forum/colosseum and easy subway access.
Testaccio might be interesting.
This is an apartment website (I wouldn't rent from this guy as he has a negative history on many websites, including this one)that has links for different neighborhoods with descriptions, pictures of piazzas and other info. Just click an area.

That website is useful in pointing out different parts of Rome and I see that one of the hotels we've looked at is actually in Monti. This appeals to me and is close to the underground to connect back to the airport the next morning.
Thank you very much

Which hotel are you considering?
If you plant to use the Cavour metro stop to the airport, you have to enter on via Leonina, not via Cavour which is up a couple of flights of stairs. It's only a minute or two walk from Serpenti, but cobblestone.
