Rome Amsterdam and/or.....

Hi Everyone, Sorry I haven't been here for awhile (I have read but not posted). It has been a difficult time. First I want to thank all who helped with my trip to France in May. It was wonderful.
Now for my question. As per my father's request we will be bringing his ashes to the Rome. Needless to say, I am having a hard time planning this trip. I want it to be a celebration possibly ending up in Amsterdam but we are open to any other ideas. We have been to Italy many times so I was thinking we might want to continue on someplace else. I also want my daughters, 17 and 19, to experience a little country hopping, that way when they go without us it will be less intimidating. We are open to trains, planes and cars. With the kids we prefer cities and the coast to the country. We will be travelling from mid June to the beginning of July,a little over 2 weeks.
Please help me pull this together a bit. Thanks

How about Berlin, Germany. There are many lakes in Berlin. How about Barcelona. They have beaches downtown.

You should be able to fly from Amsterdam to Barcelona (or Berlin) and on to Rome cheaply.

How about Greece? Fly to Athens from Rome, then island hop as you choose?

We have never been to Spain, so that would be a good idea. I would rather take only one additional flight and then travel by train. Greece would be great, but I want to go there without MDDs.
