Rome airport into Rome

I am doing a little research for a friend who is treating his parents to Rome for the weekend. His parents fly into Fiumcino airport and he wants me to find out the easiest way for them to get into Rome? Is it possible to grab a taxi at the airport, or should they go by bus/train?

I know nothing about this, he just mentioned his plans last night, and I thought I could get some help from this site!

I appreciate your comments.

This has been covered in recent posts - order a car service to meet them at the airport, because cabbies sometimes charge exorbinant rates for the connection. I can't remember off hand the company that I use - check online or do a search on this web page.

Here is a good recent thread listing many car services and approximate rates, as well as other alternatives for airport to hotel transport.

Car service would be nice, especially if they are older or not experienced travelers. There is also an express train that leaves frequently from FCO to Termini. It is very easy to get to, well signposted, inexpensive, quick. A quick search should get you lots of threads on this topic with more details.

I'm going to put in a word for the Roman taxi cab drivers. In numerous trips from FCO into Rome and back, I have never been overcharged. Last October, our fare was 29 Euro for two people and four bags. It probably would have been less if we hadn't been caught in a gridlock for twenty minutes. If you ignore the independent cabs and their shills in the airport and make your way to the official taxi rank, your fare into Rome will probably be somewhat less than with a car service.

I have had the same experiences as Grinisa with Rome taxis. Never once did I have a problem and was never overcharged. It was quick and easy. If the parents are elderly, not independant, or have no experience with independent travel, then a reserved car service may be a better option for them, but to take a bus or train with luggage to me would not be "the easiest" most direct way to their hotel. Unless they are on a shoestring budget.
