My two favorite restaurants in Rome as an airline flight attendant:
TRATTORIA da LUIGI
Longtime fav as even Pam Am crews used to go there. Its right off of Corso Vittoria Emanuele(sp?)You can walk out from Piazza Navonna to Vittoria Emanuele and see it across the street.
Address is-Piazza Sforza Cesarini 24 phone-066865946
web-www.trattoriadaluigi.com
It has the most wonderful real Italian dishes(pesto shells, yum!) along with mouthwatering seafood-the grilled calamari is my favorite! There is an antipasto bar inside of the restaurant. The spinach is to die for along with the desserts.Waiters are wonderful along with the house wine!Prices are very reasonable compared to other places. There is a good size eating area outside along with a small first floor and upstairs seating.Closed on Mondays.

Another place that others have recommended and that I personally could eat at everynight that I am in Rome is-
Ristorante ALLE FRATTE di TRASTEVERE
It actually got into the Fodors book recently and I am hoping that it doesn't get so popular that I can't get in when I am over in Rome!
This is right off the tram line(just after the first stop)to Trastevere.Take a right on the street Via dell Fratte di Trastevere and its on the right side a half block down.
Phone is 06-5835775.
Rick ,the manager is half American and half Italian and is most gracious helping you with your selections off the menu.Fabulous pastas and seafood here along with the veal selections-antipasto buffet and super desserts.Prices are reasonable but there is a limited outside eating area.Closed on Weds.
I have been flying to Rome for many years and these two restaurants always make me want to fly the trip just to eat there. Have fun!

Hi kybourbon,

Yes, I actually got those rates for the Hibernia, $104 dollars not euros even!

The other place was 100 euros at the Palm Gallery. I think I'll stick with it.... the owner/manager has been SO gracious and nice, I wanna check it out. The place looks gorgeous and in the reviews they mentioned Frette linens and that the rooms are even more gorgeous than in the pictures. It is central enough for me.....I'll just be prepared for some walking and it won't kill me to take a cab ride back if I need.

Just read the trail, Where did you end up staying? We are a family of 5 coming to Rome this summer. My daughter will be taking classes and staying at University. We're planning to visit her, and see Rome. Looking for a place to stay, for several days. Looked at VRBO, a bit nervous about renting from unknown....
we stayed at Hotel David in Florence several years go...It was perfect and I would love to find some place similar. Just wondering what was the final decision, I looked on line at Palm gallery as well.
thanks

Hi leslie- I stayed at both the hiberia and the palm gallery. Of the two, I preferred the Hiberia for the central location. I felt I could walk anywhere from there....and, there is a bus stop only half a block away. I took the bus everywhere and learned the complex bus route system. It was extremely cost effective and I got to the train station and back so easily.

The rooms are simple but very adequate. I had warned my 13 yo son to be prepared for sparse minimum and he kept bringing that up during our stay.... like, "what was that you were saying, mom, that this was going to be soooo miniscule?!" He thought it was quite lovely.

The concierge there was wonderful and recommended a restaurant to us, I wish I could remember it, but it was terrific.
