ROME

We are going on a Globus Journeys trip to Italy Rome to Rome. We will have one evening to ourselves, where we could either take one of Globus offered excursions, or go out on our own. Which local places are there to see in Rome, like shops and local cafes, restaurants, etc. where we get to see the local life and still not go too far away from our hotel Una Hotel Roma ?

Also, is it safe to take a cab from airport to the hotel around 7:00 pm?

Thank You!

It's perfectly safe to take a cab to your hotel at that time. Rome is a safe city to wander around in, just take the same precautions that you would at home.

One of the pleasures of travel is to wander around and find places. Don't just have one place to go to, walk around and find somewhere.

At 7 PM, shops are still open and the streets are full of people. Most Romans eat dinner between 8 and 9 PM.

The Hotel Una is near Termini station, which isn't a very charming neighborhood. You might want to go a little further afield on your evening stroll. What time of year will this be?

Your hotel is only a 15 minute walk from the Monti neighboorhood of Rome. Everything will be open and lively until midnight.

Monti is not a secret to tourists, but there are more Roman families living there and using its shops and eateries than there are tourists. Although Rome is quite safe, it is good to have a bit of an idea of heading to a destination, not just wandering any old which way when you leave your hotel, only because you don't want to keep finding your way blocked by the train tracks. Heading in the direction of the Monti neighborhood takes you away from the tracks.

IMO you will have a better time (and cheaper) going off on your own in Rome. Your hotel will probably have a map - restaurant suggestions too but if it were me, I'd wander and find one that looks good and go on in! It is easy to get lost so take a card from your hotel in case you need to go back to the hotel by cab. Many interesting places are within walking distance or a short cab ride from near Termini - the Campo di Fiori or Piazza Nuvona will be very lively but probably more tourists than locals. The Monti neighborhood is a smart suggestion. ENJOY!

Use this restaurant as a 'Plan B' if you decide to stay near-by your hotel or want a restaurant on your evening arrival.

It's only 2.5 blocks from your hotel and at the end of the street from your hotel.
A few of the links are dead but enough work to cover them.

Yes. A taxi is 48e but you can get a private car/driver for 45e, I and many others on this site have used this company and on tripadvisor.com it gets 4.5 out of 5 stars with 127 reviews.
If there were any problems with a no-show you could do a 'Plan B' with a taxi.
