Robespierre - Need your comment on my NEW PDA.

Hi Robespierre,

I did a search for PDAs here on Fodors and it looks like you are the resident expert.

Can I use my regular travel converter to recharge my PDA or do I need to purchase a special one for computer gadgets?

Thanks!

Monica

Monica, your PDA charger should say if it is "dual voltage" i.e., it will accept 110-220/240 (unfortunately, some of these sold in the US don't; I got mine in Canada and the ones there come with the dual voltage charger)...you can actually get dual voltage charges for certain models which is probably worth the expense if you travel overseas with it.

I'm home now and just checked. No, my PDA TX charger is not dual voltage. It just says "Input 120 volts"

Right. Best thing to do is get a dual-voltage charger from the manufacturer of the PDA.

Second-best thing would be to get a <b>transformer</b>-type (NOT a switching-type) voltage converter. But this is a very tricky area, and an error could fry your PDA (and charger). <i>If it doesn't say it's a transformer, don't plug your charger into it!</i> Here is one such:

Do you think this is what I need? http://www.palm.com/us/products/acce...es/3172WW.html

The converter I have at home is a Franus and written very small on the back it does say not to use with electronic circuitry products (i.e., computers,....)

Thanks for your help! I certainly don't want to blow this palm pda. I did purchase a couple of SDs (512 each).

That looks very similar to the one I bought for my Palm Zire 31.....it worked fine in Switzerland - my only out of US trip with it so far.

Perfect!

If you have a few moments, would you mind terribly posting the exact language in the fine print you mentioned?

Are you looking for the language on the converter or the PDA re-charger?

The converter, which you paraphrased above as &quot;...not to use with electronic circuitry products (i.e., computers,....)&quot;

I just wondered exactly how it was worded.

Thanks for the clarificaiton:

&quot;1600 Watt converter. 50 to 1600 watt products only. Warning this converter should NOT be used with power tools and electronic circuity products (i.e. computers, fax machines, typewriters, TVs, stereos, VCRs, etc).&quot;

Robespierre, I'd like to download an Italian-English dictionary. There are lots on the internet. Since I have never done this before, do you recommend any particular one?

I wouldn't mind a game or two as well.

Thanks!

Hmmm...Palm OS.

I dunno. I googled <b>free palm italian dictionary</b> and got about 3 million hits, so you should be able to do something.
