Riviera, Avignon, Paris

Thought my bookings were set for the trip, but due to a computer glitch at my end they didn't go through. Agggg! I thought I was booked at Beau Site in Antibes and learned today the room is no longer available. Looking to spend around $200 USD per night. Also, my booking at La Banasterie in Avignon fell through. They recommended Lumani guest house, also in town. Any experience here? In Paris, I do have a booking at the Eiffel Kennedy, but I'm wondering if the 16th arondissement is convenient and a good area to stay in. I'd appreciate advice. We're leaving in just over three weeks. Oh, and car rental for the first half of the trip. Pick up at Nice Airport, drop 9 days later at Avignon. Who has good rates? Help!

I know nothing about the hotels you list, but I can give you car rental advice. First, book now from home. It will cost a lot more if you wait until you get to Nice. I, and many other Fodorites, recommend Auto Europe (www.autoeurope.com), a consolidator that finds you the best rate from amony any of several companies. If you find a better rate on your own, AE promises to either match or beat it. If you book with a credit card that provides insurance for rentals in Europe, you can decline the CDW coverage and take the basic rate.

The 16th arr. is generally very nice, and is pretty convenient if you are in the part around Trocadero or Passy. I like it. Also, because not as many tourists stay there, some budget hotels are actually pretty reasonably priced compared to other quarter like St Germain, even though it's a nice residential area. I looked up that hotel, and that's a great location near the Passy/Ranelagh metro stops.

Thanks so much for the car rental and Paris advice. I appreciate it very much. Has anyone had experience with Lumani in Avignon?? It looks beautiful. The cost would be 140 euro a night. Is that too high for Avignon? Also, no air conditioning. We'll be there the second week of September. Thanks, all.

Maybe try Baie Doree in Cap d'Antibes? It's very close to Beau Site, and right on the plage de la Garoupe. Don't know if you can get a room for that price, but check with the hotel directly; friends of mine stayed there, and liked it (though it could do with some redecoration, the rooms overlook the bay, some with terraces).

Don't know your hotel in Paris but it gets very good reviews on tripadvisor

Agree with getting a quote for car from autoeurope. Don't get a car that's too large regardless of what they offer. Many of the streets are narrow and larger cars are not a good idea. Do get auto transmission if that's what you're used to and try to get a/c in the car. As to a/c in the hotel, I'd want in in the south. Not sure about Avignon.

I can recommend the Hotel Welcome in Villefranche if you can't find something in Antibes. It's closer to the Nice airport and convenient for getting around.
