Rickmav -- I am waiting anxiously for your photos. I adore England and Christmas. I have dreamed of a trip like yours my whole life. At least I can live vicariously via your trip report. Thanks so much. Kathy

Hi janisj - I haven't read Susan Allen Toth - but have ordered today through inter-library loan. I can't wait to read them.

MissPrism - enjoyed your photos. I have similar pics of Lavenham, don't you just love the sherbert orange colour of the Little Hall? We will have to try the ferry at Walberswick the next time we go, looks like fun. And I love the picture of the cottage with the lucky stones hanging outside the door.

Hi Kathy - Am busily sorting through the photos. Trying just to pick the ones that might mean something to people other than Rick and I. I'm glad you got to satisfy a bit of your England-passion through my report. That's the great thing about this site, isn't it?

I usually read trip reports quickly, looking through them for those interesting tidbits that might spark an interest in something new to do. I started reading this one that way and stopped about 4 paragraphs in, slowed down and read every word. It's so common to hear people say "you made me feel like I was there" and it usually elicits a jaw snapping yawn from me, but I guess I have to say, "You really made me feel like I was there". It is warm and tender writing, never pretentious and always informative.

My wife can't sit in front of a computer and read stuff as it drives her crazy. In this case though, I've pasted together the whole package ... all 63 pages and she can sit up in bed and read it with a nice up of hot cider. Thank you for all of your efforts on this. It's clearly a work of the heart and you've given us all a great read and lots of inspiration.

Bill

Hi wojazz3 - Your words are very kind. Thank you. I think that's the highest compliment someone can give me about the trip report, that "You really made me feel like I was there". And I hope your wife enjoyed it, too. My sister hates reading stuff on the computer as well, she says she can't relate to things the same way as when she holds 'copy' in her hands. Take care. Mavis

"I've discovered in doing these reports that it's 99% the material you have - that makes anything you write sound good."

rickmav, I've been thinking about this comment of yours, and while good material can make an indifferently written report readable, excellent writing can make even mundane material engrossing. And when good material lands in the lap of a good writer we have a trip report such as this one!

It's related to the point made by wojazz3. The average report (such as what I write) might say, "I found the sight of zxy very moving," and we are left thinking how nice it was that the author had the experience. Your report, however, expresses your experiences so that we are moved with you. Not only are we truly transported to England through your words, we feel it in the way you did.

You have the gift of writing, and you have given us a gift in turn through your reports.
