RHINE BOAT RIDE QUESTION

My daughter will be staying Frankfurt for a few days at the end of March. Is it possible to get to Mainz and take a short (maybe 1/2 day)boat trip on the Rhine and get back to Frankfurt?
Thanks for any help!

Don't take the boat from Mainz. The nicest part of the Rhine is a bit north of there. Mainz is more industrial than scenic.
Take the train to St. Goar and take the boat south to Bacharach. She could tour Rheinfels Castle in St. Goar before getting on the boat and walk around Barcharch all in a 1/2 day from Frankfurt.

Yes, it's easy, though the end of March is at the very start of the season so boat services will be limited. It would be best to go one way by boat and the other way by train. The river has a strong current so boats going downstream (northwards) are faster. The most scenic part of the river is from Bingen or Rüdesheim to St.Goar, Bingen or Koblenz. Study a map and look at boat schedules on www.k-d.com, www.hoelzenbein.de or www.bingen-ruedesheimer.com. Railways run along each side of the river and you can check train schedules on www.bahn.de.

Hi my suggestion is to take a train from frankfurt to ruedesheim (go to :
http://www.bahn.de) or rent a car (1 hour drive) and then step on board of of the rhine ships of the kd-cruises.
or check all routes on
http://www.koeln-duesseldorfer.com

there you will find combinations of castle tours, wine tastings etc.

I've realised that my previous reply is nonsense. The most scenic stretch is from Bingen or Rüdesheim to St. Goar, Boppard (not "Bingen&quot or Koblenz.
