Returning car before ferry in Normandy logistics

I know i can't be the first person to want to rent a car in Normandy, then get back on the ferry to the UK as a foot passenger. However, I am having trouble with logistics. I can't find a car rental place open on Sundays in Caen or Le Havre, even at the airport. If I did a Monday morning ferry from Caen, the rental car agencies still wouldn't be open before the ferry departs. There are 5 people in our party, so car travel is really the most economical vs the train. Anyone have suggestions as to how they've done this? I looked for information about after hours drop boxes but didn't really find anything.

Could you go to Cherbourg? We've returned a car (Avis) before opening hours using a drop-box.

You could also inquire directly with a rental company like Avis about the drop-box option at other locations.

I'd look at auto-europe (a broker) and ask them your problem (email or telephone) they will sort you something out if there is something out there for you.

Some agencies have drop offs while closed. Check with them.

Enterprise Rentals at the Caen train station allows after hours drops on their website. Avis did both times i returned cars in Caen there as well in 2011 and 2016. The Train station drop lots are ALL just east of the locations in the same general area.

They did have buses to take us to ferry from car rental place. We actually dropped ours off the day before and spent a nice evening in Ouistreham. If they give you a good price on a cabin I suggest one of you take it for naps, bathroom, luggage storage.

I dont' really understand what you want to know. Do you want to get the car on a SUnday or just return it? Big difference.

Europcar is open Sunday afternoons at the Caen train station, 2 pm and later, for example, although there may be a fee for that. IF you want ti fetch a car, that would work.

You can return cars 24/7 to Sixt at the Caen train station as well as at their facility t the Le Havre port.
