Restaurants in Vevey
We'll be there for a couple of nights (over a weekend) in early September.
I've read the posts here and I've seen the various recommendations in two different guidebooks but would appreciate any additional ideas.
Doesn't have to be gourmet level; much prefer plain old comfort food over wild game. I would eat some local "lake food" such as perch but my partner isn't into fish at all unless it is salmon!!!
Fine wine not an issue nor is beer.
Outside dining is always nice. Staying at the "Three Crowns" but suspect the food in the hotel restaurants is probably overpriced; I'm waiting to eyeball the 45 CHF breakfast buffet BEFORE I decide.
Maybe this time when we venture up to Rochers de Naye we'll actually get to see the lake!
Thanks, everyone...

Hi Dukey,
I always enjoy the Hostellerie de Geneve (right on the main square) whenever I'm in the area, though it's an Italian place.
Actually, my favorite restaurants are in the village of Villenevue (other side of Chillon) and on the little street in town (not one of the tourist-y places on the lake).
Anyway, have fun!

When you're in Vevey just walk around the square and the pedestrian street nearby. Look for the Ma & Pa places with a chalk board out front with the daily specials. I don't remember specific names, but you'll see the kind of cafes I'm talking about.
Also stroll along the quai, there's some restaurants there with patio seating overlooking the lake. Filet de perche specials but they have other dishes as well.

Dukey- there is a little Italian restaurant with a green and red (duh) awning on the square which had GREAT food at a good price. Believe it or not, we had a really great lunch at the cafe opposite side of street from Chillon Castle. However, our favorite meal (thanks to an insider tip) was at the Auberge de Rivaz

Splendid, a lovely outside garden and festive place. Don't miss hopping on the wine train and visiting all the little charming villages and "wine caves". Also, take a day trip on the local choo choo to Gruyeres. We hiked there from Bulles, it was a blast. I suggest going there late in the day after the tour buses leave and visiting the castle, gardens and perhaps dining in one of the nice hotels there.

You can see a photo of Hostellerie de Geneve's restaurant on the square in Vevey at www.hotelgeneve.ch
If you're looking for a high-end or special occasion restaurant L'ermitage is very nice, on the lake in Montreux. www.ermitage-montreux.com. As is L'Auberge de Rivaz in the vineyards of Lavaux mentioned above.

Not sure if you'll be there on market day (Tue/Sat if I recall) but if you are and you enjoy cheese head to the end of the market (your back will be to the sea) on the left side for some unbelievably good cheese tarts which make a filling and scrumptious breakfast.
I've posted about them before and I believe Suze checked with her friend in Vevey and they're called Salée. Locals were lined up at 7:30 am to buy them and fortunately the line moves fast. Enjoy!

Yes, that's correct. The Vevey market days are Tues & Sat mornings. The Montreux market day is on Fri morning. LOVE those salee, cold or hot, excellent! There's lots of good eats, besides the fresh produce and flowers. Pastries, bread, little pizzas, dried meats, cheeses... absolutely wonderful.
