Restaurants in Munich

Any recommendations for restaurants in the downtown area for about 50 euros per couple for dinner? Thanks

Our favourite restaurant while living there (till 2001) was Casa de Tapas - Spanish restaurant on corner of Amalienstrasse and Adalbertstrasse (U bahn Universitat). A really busy place - get there before 8pm), was extremely good value for somewhere a bit trendy (which meant, it was certainly not all the "beautiful people&quot. Yes it is not German food, but just a really good value, fun place. Spatenhaus opposite the Opera House is a very good traditional German restaurant. Andechs at Weinstrasse, for cheaper, but very highly rated local food (better rated than Spatenhaus)- but prepare to sit on common tables.

Barbara, we ate at the Spatenhaus based upon recommendations from this board, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nick's Spanish restaurant and Andechs also sounds good. I must try them on my next trip to Munich.

Not downtown, but an easy U ride. Get off at the Munchner Freiheit stop (U3/U6) and cross Leopoldstrausse and walk about a block north. There is an awsome italian restraunt called Al Pacino's. Best to go there for lunch, you can wait over an hour to get seated for dinner there. Some of the best pizza we had in Europe, and the Carpaccio w/olive oil & parmesean was wonderful and I am not normally a red meat fan.

For more in the Downtown area, the Augustiner Haus has good food, would not eat at the Hofbrau again, but is worth a beer just to say you saw it.

The Ratskeller is supposed to have great food (in the building with the Glockenspeil) The menu looked good, but we just did not have time to eat there.

If you must go to the Hofbrauhaus to put the "check" in the box, do it, take a picture, and get the hell out of there. Augustiner Keller beer garden is my favorite. Spatenhaus had good, resonable food. I can't wait to get back there.
