I'm leaving for Paris tomorrow and am interested in any restaurant recommendations in Le Marais. We've already booked a meal at Les Ombres for one of our nights, so the nights that we choose to eat near our hotel we'll be looking for something less pricey, but with great food. We would be happy with either traditional french restaurants or restaurants that are a little more trendy with an upbeat atmosphere.

I like l'Auberge de Nicolas Flamel, on rue Montmorency in the 3rd. It's in what is supposed to be the oldest house in Paris. The ambience is great -- very cozy at this time of year. The menu, while not extensive, is nicely done.

Another suggestion: Mon Vieil Ami on the Ile St Louis is a great bistro. You should definitely reserve in advance, though.

Au Bascou, near Arts et Metier metro has great basque food

We're staying in the Marias in May and I've ben researching restuarants like mad. One I loved from my last trip is Le Hangar 12, impasse Berthaud, 3 rd Tel: 01 42 74 55 44. Fabulous food, very small place, menu only in French, very good prices. Try the amazing slab of foie gras over olive oil mashed potatoes. To die for.

One I know we'll be trying when we go is Au Fil Saisons
6, Rue Fontaines du Temple
33 1 42 74 16 60. 3 course prix fixe 33E. The food is supposed to be senational for the price although I've read that the service may not be terribly friendly. Not bad o rude, just not particularly warm.

We ate at Les Ombres on Friday night. If you've never been, there are no signs directing you and no one around to help find it... If you enter the museum area from the Seine side, go through the large billboards and bear to your left and follow the path on the left...

Very friendly service, amazing view, decor a little stark and food good but not unbelievable as reviewed in some places....dinner for 2 with appetizers and cocktail but no wine or dessert was 147 Euros...Worth it for the view for sure.

If you bring your camera you can go out on the terrace and snap away at the twinkling lights. Afterward you can walk to the tower and stroll about underneath it for another point of view.

You are wise to reserve the rest of the nights near your hotel as it can be difficult getting a cab with the strike... plus, why not save the Euros for a great dinner nearby instead of the transport to and fro. I would have stayed closer to our hotel in the 6th in hindsight.

Not sure where exactly you are staying, but if it were me, and it was not a weekend, I would take the fairly short walk to Chez Denise near Les Halles for some of the best bistro cooking you will ever experience. Alternatively, you could try Chez Clovis a few steps away. (I have not been to the second but have heard good things from people whose opinions I value).

I loved this restaurant in the Marais, I thought the atmosphere was so cozy, value for the euro was great, service was friendly, desserts were TDF!

Vins des Pyrenees (Aux) Traditional French cooking is what you will find at Vins des Pyrenees (Wines of the Pyrenees). Vins des Pyrenees is for seeing and being seen. This old wine cellar, now decked out with red-and-white-checkered tablecloths and old photographs on the walls, has an authentic 1930's feel. The atmosphere is warm, quiet, and intimate, especially on Sundays for brunch. Grilled meat is the specialty of this restaurant. You should expect to pay EUR12-EUR30 for a menu.
