Restaurants and Bars in Edinburgh
I'm going Edinburgh for a few days at the end of September and I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions for good restaurants or bars. My husband and I are 43 and love good wine and beer. Looking to go up to about a max of 80 - 100 GBP for dinner for 2. We are staying at Elmview B&B which is about a 1/2 mile from the castle. Thanks!

Don't miss the Cafe Royal just off Princes St at 17 West Register St. It is decorated in a spectacular Victorian style. The Circle Bar is open all day (try the local IPA, called Deuchars) and the Oyster Bar is one of the better restaurants in town.
My favorite high-end dining spot(flirting with your price cap for dinner, though much cheaper for lunch) is the Rhubarb restaurant at the Prestonfield Hotel. That's probably 2-3 miles from your B&B.

We found a really great pub in Edinburgh - very authentic feeling if that makes sense. It doesnt have food - just drinks. But there was an old man bartender in a suit, and plenty of pints.
It was called the Waverly and it was on Queen st.

There is a very informative insider report on good Edinburgh pubs compiled by an Edinburgh resident.
Have a look at http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g1....Ale.Pubs.html and you will find that it covers most of the city real ale pubs and there are quite a few in the mile and a half between the Elmview and Edinburgh Castle. There are also some good restaurants in and around the Grassmarket which lies below the Castle.
For good restaurants at semi reasonable prices look at www.edinburghrestaurants.co.uk

The Malt Shovel is a great pub... perhaps they still have the pub crawl in Edinburgh also - you can start at the Malt Shovel
Great time and good reason to visit many pubs - you get a card and have it marked at each pub you visit - and a touristy t-shirt at the end that lists all the pubs you visited !
