Restaurant recommendations in Sicily

Hi I will be heading to Palermo, agrigento, Piazza armerina, Oritigiya, Ragusa, Taormina.
Can you recommend some restaurants that were highlights of your trip and/or references that helped you?
I checked tripadvisor but not that impressed. Not necesarily looking for michelin starred(but willing) but excellent where the locals go, can't miss spot.
I really like the eating styles of anthony bourdain and rick stein--solid and not too pretentious

My trip to the area was SOOooooo long ago (2007) that I can't really help, but here are the notes that I posted after my time in the area -- you can look up anything that interests you on TA...

Can you get your hands on the SlowFood Osterie guide to Italy? There is an app and an English hard-cover book, and although the book is ten years out of date, many places will stay more or less the same since publication.

Here are some of their listings from 2017--one in Taormina and only one in Palermo. The app might have more, at least in Palermo.

Buccheri SR U Locale
Castelbuono PA Nangalarruni
Lampedusa AG Da Bernardo
Milo CT 4 Archi
Modica RG La Rusticana
Naso ME La Perla
Palazzolo Acreide SR Andrea
Palazzolo Acreide SR Trattoria del Gallo
Palermo PA Ai Cascinari
Petralia Soprana PA Da Salvatore
Rosolini SR U Sulicce’nti
San Piero Patti ME Da Luciana
San Vito Lo Capo TP Al Ritrovo
Santo Stefano Quisquina AG Acquarius
Sinagra ME Fratelli Borrello
Taormina ME Tischi Toschi
Trapani TP Cantina Siciliana

That reminds me that I had 2 of my best meals in Palermo at trattorie recommended in past editions of the Slow Food guide but which now are not there. Every year since 2011, Luciano Pignataro, an Italian wine & food blogger, publishes the table of contents from the Slow Food guide. I've found it worth it when traveling to look at the listings going several years back for addresses of restaurants that for reasons having nothing to do with the quality of their food/cooking, get dropped out of the guide. (For instance, they raised their prices or stopped making one particular dish).

I've gotten some memorably wonderful meals that way, in particular in Palermo at Piccolo Napoli and Osteria Paradiso (the latter especially being the kind of place Bourdain would discover on a lucky day.).

The easiest way to find Pignataro's past Slow Food listings is to google for "Pignataro + chiocciole + year" (i.e., 2011 or 2014)

thank you. I am trying to lose 25 pounds by cutting sugar and starvation before my sicily trip. In sicily, I plan on eating 2 lunches, 2 dinners every day . I live in an area where the only 'italian'restaurant is olive garden. So i have been deprived pretty much my whole life

Well, don't undermine your immune system before a trip, especially one as demanding as Sicily road-tripping between October & March, when the weather can be quite unpredictable.

If you do feel under the weather in Palermo, go to one of the "brodo" restaurants -- which are great. A long time ago, during a bout of widespread influenza in the city, local doctors recommended people consume enriched broth, and there exist today 2 restaurants that still serve the classic recipe. It's really very delicious.
