Restaurant in paris

I had read about a restaurant in Paris called the Recruiting Seargant or something like that, but could find no such thing. Could anyone tell me if there is such a restaurant in Paris and where is it?

Hi Lin <BR>The full name is La Taverne du <BR>Sargent Recruteur. I found it in one of my older guidebooks. <BR>Book says it accepts credit cards, open for dinner only, closed Sun. Metro Pont-Marie. <BR>"leaded windows, stone floor, heavy wooden beams...at this restaurant you get...lavish treatment without the penalty...make sure you have a big appetite...4-course, fixed price menu, including wine, of remarkably good value."

Dined there recently. Warm atmosphere though a bit touristy and noisy. They set a turine-sp? of soup on the table-forget what soup but it was good. Then they brought lots of raw vegetables-the tomatoes were nice and ripe, then bread and a large bowl of sausages. We both had boeuf bouguignon which had a good flavor but lots of fat. We had a whole bottle of vin de pays - O.K. and could have had more. Not much choice on desserts-can't remember what we had but it was forgettable [so I forgot it]. The waiter was generous--he brought a me a second desser- a chocolate ? which I didn't even want. Cost about 37 euros per person.

Was it as mediocre to bad as I've read?

P.S. It's one of Rick Steves favorites.

Not all of Rick Steves recommendations are sound, but this could be said of Sandra Gustafson or anyone really. On the other hand, this restaurant does have fans. I suppose it all depends on what one expects and favors a restaurant to be.

agreed, your experience won't be mine. We can eat at the same place but the day, the waiter so many things come into play.

I went to this and the neighboring restaurant Nos Ancestres about 5 or 6 years ago. It was a fun atmosphere and the food was good, not the best ever, but good. I liken it to Il Latini in Florence.

And next door is Nos Ancetres le Gaulois:

Leslie Strauss ate at Sergent Recruteur - she thought the food was good &amp; the atmosphere a lot of fun.
