Hello - I'm back from my trip and my stay at Residenza San Pantaleo. Well it wasn't horrible, but I think it would rate moderate to poor in my books.
The location is great. However even the "quiet" side is not very quiet (due to street noise). The walls are thin and lots of running slamming doors and loud phone conversation. The breakfast was not good.
We thought that this is what an italian b&b was like since this was our first stop. However after staying at all our other hotels and getting some perspective I realize that this is not the case.
I personally would not recommend it to anyone and would try something else next time.

I just wanted to add my two cents, for what it's worth. I stayed in San Pantaleo in April. While I would not consider it first class, we were quite satisfied with our stay there. For $95 per night, with that location, I couldn't ask for more. In comparing prices for other places with that location, I think it was a great value for the money. I believe we had room #1, our room was the last room on the left. It was a large room with a decent bathroom. It was above a busy road, but high enough the noise did not bother us. It was clean, modern and safe. I was not expecting any more! Our traveling companions had a much smaller room (#4), but also no compaints from them. We heard no excessive noise, no doors left unlocked, and no dust to be found. Breakfast was a croissant, yogurt, coffe and juice, pleasantly delivered to our room. Maybe we're just easygoing people, but we were quite satisfied with our room. As far as needing change for $100 euro, we left a tip for Florian, so we did not encounter a need for change. In Italy, are you supposed to tip the manager where you stayed if you were satisfied?

It should be interesting to see if Karen did stay @ RSP, and if she posts a less than favorable review. She should be in Rome now.

Hi everybody! My husband and I just returned from Italy. During our vacation in Rome, we stayed at the Residenza San Pantaleo. I would describe this hotel as fair. We had room number 1. The room was a typical size for european standards. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was of an adequate european size. However, the shower was a bit small. I am of a petite frame and I barely fit into the shower. The shower curtain was made of a flimsly material, so it always stuck to my skin while in use. Overall, the room was fine. My only complaint is with Florio, the inn keeper. His housekeeping abilities leave much to be desired. The room was extremely dusty, especially the floor. The bath towels and bath mat are completely worn out. Some even had stains on them. Sometimes, he did not even change our towels. One day, my husband and I returned and found the master key inside our door. Florio, however, was nowhere to be found. Lastly, Florio's inability to give change for the hotel bill is absurd. Although this is only a small amount of money, I find this unprofessional. He would not even write on the receipt that I gave him more than what the bill had asked. We will not be staying in this hotel again.

Laurina, by any chance, were you the person who had a problem with the management at Le Clos Medicis in Paris? You said here and in digital.france that that they overbooked your reservation. Just curious as we are thinking of staying there and then saw your posting-if you are the same person that is.

Yes, we did stay at Le Clos Medicis. I do not recommend staying there again, as there is no way to know for sure if you really have a room there or not. Email confirmations and reconfirmations don't mean a thing. I was told this is a common practice all over europe, but this is the only hotel I've had problems with.

Again this is for Laurina. So maybe what happened is that the hotel doesn't notify the booking agency (digitalfrance.com) that the room was booked so the booking agency still has it open in their records? If that's the case, then that's pretty bad.
I have checked with other hotels directly to enquire and their responses made me feel that I would get the room that I wanted. Sorry to hear about your experience. I don't feel secure booking at Le Clos Medicis now. But other people haven't had problems-that's weird.

Oh no.....we have three rooms booked for the middle of July! One triple facing the street and two doubles facing the courtyard. I am so concerned. I do not mind a small room or small shower, but a dirty room would be too much. Other than the Primavera, where else would be a good place to check at this late date?

We also are booked to stay at the RSP for three nights in mid-July. There are four of us, so I assume that we would be in room #5, the larger street-facing room. But some of the posts about opening the window/closing the window etc. are making me wonder if this room has any air conditioning. When I booked it, I was under the impression that it did. Not that I'm looking for anything too crisp, but I do want to be able to sleep, and I understand it could be pretty hot in mid-July, and it seems that this room faces the street. ???
In spite of the mixed posts I've read about RSP, I'm taking my chances...

Kat, This is Karen. I did post my reactions to the RSP, but they are on the other thread that should be by this one when it comes up. My reaction was very favorable, and please if anyone is worried about staying, read my post on the other thread, that was started by me on 5/22/02.
