Anyone received an email confirming a change in reservation...

...from Martha Washington Hotel?

I've never heard of this hotel so when I received an email titled "Change to Your Reservation at Martha Washington Hotel" and with details to a reservation for November 2013, I was on alert. It looks like there really is such a hotel when I looked it up online, by a hotel group called Chelsea Hotels. I called the reservation number provided on their website and on the recording, it addresses this concern, to just ignore the email. I was however concerned how they got my email address and name so I held on to speak with an agent. The person I spoke with, Gregory, told me it was just a computer error and to not worry about it. When I asked him to explain it further, he said that if I've used expedia, or travelocity or one of those, as an example, that that might have caused the glitch. I told him again that that wasn't a valid answer because if it was through one of those online sites, then they should have been the one from whom I received the information from and that it still does not answer how Martha Washington Hotel got my information. Anyone else receive a similar confirmation?

This has never happened to me. I would trust Gregory, and not worry about a reservation somebody may or may not have made two years ago.

The Martha Washington used to be a real dump. Probably some sort of hack.

Actually, when I reserve through a consolidator I get emails directly from the hotel. I'm sure it's in the fine print that your email gets shared with the hotel you chose.

But why do you care? This is the email equivalent of junk mail--toss it and move on.

It was at minimum a SPAM and possibly a phishing attempt by someone using the name of the hotel as a ruse.

Phishers get email addresses from many sources including email lists. If you do anything online that involves your email address, it makes it way to a list.

I passed by the Martha the other day, and it has undergone a complete renovation. It once defined dump until Penn Hotel took that title.
