Crimenentlies, NYFoodSnob... you are using so many mixed metaphors that there is just no way to make sense of what you are trying to say.

Tumors, cancer, hysteria - perhaps medical marijuana is involved, here? Or maybe it should be...

I don't mean to be insensitive, but seriously, get a grip.

<<Really inconsistent though, some ask for full money with no mention of deposit to reserve though if they have your credit card, that is presumably their security deposit.

Then others only mention a $150 key deposit, to be returned presumably when you return the keys. But what if you have an early morning departure and can't hand over the key to someone?>>

I have heard of one agency that I think has only what they call a "key deposit" and I think it is Vacation in Paris (but I could be wrong). Now that is pretty generous to have no other security deposit than that. But Europe doesn't run on $$$, so a deposit being in USD doesn't really make sense unless it is a US agency, like they are. And how would you get that back on site, in Europe? They don't use USD there. I think I've heard of one agency that takes a check but doesn't cash it (dumb on their part, as you could always cancel it), and I suppose that could be in USD.

But as you noted, most people have to leave early and don't have time to be meeting up with anyone. Which is why you usually are going to have to wait to get it by mail or by refund to a CC/through Paypal. And that takes some time.

It would not be legal for anyone to just charge money to your credit card, just because they know the number, without an agreement saying under what conditions they can do that and for how much. But it should be clear if that is the situation for a security deposit (I think I did rent one place many years ago that had that situation, which was good as you didn't pay anything if there were no damage). Of course, things could obviously go wrong there, just like with anything you rent, like cars, where they can do that.

Well I rented this one through Flipkey.

They got back to me and had me pay through this site:

http://www.my-apartment-in-paris.com...ef-T06994.html

They charged 30% (305 Euro out of 1051 Euro for 5 nights) and then I am to pay the balance by the end of March, which is a month before the stay.

They said they'll use my credit card to hold 1000 Euro in case of damage.

Looks legit but who knows.
