We are staying in Oia for 4 nights and are wondering whether we should be renting a car to travel the island? Also, is parking impossible? Do the hotels have parking?

I would recommend renting a car. This way you can tour the whole island yourself (it's not very big). Parking for us was no trouble at all, and we had a mini van.

Did you rent it when you got to Greece or from your home country?? Do you remember how much it was?

I have never rented a car in Santorini only a scooter but I think cars run 20 to 30 euros a day depending on size. I do not think any hotels in Oia that are on or near the caldera have parking but there is some lots at the edge of town, check with your hotel. The roads on Santorini are fine, kind of twisty but well maintained and not overly busy.

We rented in Santorini near our hotel. Can't remember the exact rate, but I think it was $400US for the week (but that was a minivan for 7 people). You can bargin with them, so don't go with their first quote. The roads are fine. There is one main road that goes from one end of the island to the other.

We rented a car. It was the easiest thing in the world. Get a convertible --- it was in terrible condition but super fun! I think it cost 50 E in the off season. We drove around everywhere..... it could save a tiring walk up to ancient Thera! The road from Fira to Oia can be a bit treacherous -- no guardrails. few lights.

Should we be renting the car for the entire time or is 1 day enough?

When you decide to venture out of Oia, I would then rent it. Oia is it at the end of the island away from everything.
