rent a car 1 day in Santorini?

Has anyone rented a car for a day on Santorini? My husband and I will be there for 5 days and were thinking of taking one day and just driving around the island, seeing the archaeological sites, stopping at a winery or two, maybe a beach...
Is this worth doing? Recommended car rental on the island & approximate cost?

Thanks in advance.

Years ago we rented a moped instead of a car. Can't help with the price since it was in Drachma’s then. It gave us the flexibility to park in the tight small places a car couldn't go. On the other hand we were nervous about driving it at nights. The roads are curve to Oia where we were staying. I would recommend either a car of moped. We really took advantage of seeing everything. The buses don't go everywhere. We literally toured the entire island in 1 day.

Renting a car certainly has its advantages, convenience being number one. Akrotiri to Oia by bus would take you as much as 2 hours, but by car you could do it in half that time.

I don't know the current daily rates, but I'd be surprised if it were more than 25 Euro.

Yes, we rented a car (a Seat Ibizi)for just one day in Fira while on Santorini. That was enough. We covered the more distant sites and had a wonderful day, visiting the Aktitori site, the lighthouse, Perissa and Kamari beaches, and then to Oia. I can't remember the name of the rental company but our hotel (the Loucas) recommended it and it was right in the center of town. I highly recommend doing it. It would have taken us three days to do all that trying to use public transportation.
