Forget the rest and use Skycars....
My wife an I have used Skycars to book rental cars here in Spain many times. We get a car from Europcar outlets but approx. 20 euro per day cheaper than dealing direct. The service from Europcar and Skycars is excellent, the staff at Europcar speak good English.

Check this link www.skycars.com

Hi, well I just compared the Skycar site to what I paid through AutoEurope. While on the face, skycars seems to be less expensive, it isn't and leaves several potential problems that can be really expensive.

AutoEurope -- I have a Lancia Y rented for 9 days, from Rome to Palermo. Total cost $455. Max liability is $125. No other charges other than fuel, tolls, etc.

Skycars -- For a Fiat Panda ($363 rate) or Punto ($381 rate) with no liability seems much less, now we read the fine print. At Sky I must pay 70euros for early morning drop off and 360 euros if someone steals the tag. The 70 euros alone brings it above the Autoeurope cost and the "tag" stealin is a deal killer.

By the way, I called AutoEurope on this and they said the max liability applies to any theft.

So, I'd say really check rates, because what you see may not be what you get.

Daveesl, check your facts, Skycars are cheaper, there service is far superior to AutoEurope, read other peoples problems with dealing AutoEurope. Sure there is an insurance excess, but if you take care and drive defensively then you are fine. The added bonus of dealing with Skycars and Europcars is that you are dealing with English spaeking people, not so at AutoEurope.
Have fun

I have always spoken English to AutoEurope....?!? In any case, the "service" is given by the car rental company. AutoEurope usually just generates a voucher for me to print up in 10 seconds.

I have used AutoEurope several times with no problems. Never been charged any extra and while my credit card covers damage, I do usually take their inclusive coverage. (For my upcoming planning for a trip to Croatia, insurance added $40 for the whole trip, not bad IMHO!)

My theory on rental cars is that I will NOT use local companies or companies I am not familar with (Skycars thus qualifies) This is based on problems in the US with "mom and pop" operations and I figure if I have had to fight with them I don't want to risk it in a country where I don't live.

If I don't use AutoEurope I tend to use Hertz. I rent a lot from them domestically.

rsup,

On 11/02 you posted essentially the same message re skycars .3 times and again on 11/06.

We appreciate your enthusiasm, but not all agencies always have the lowest rates for a given rental on a given day.

Yes I am a great fan of this company, we have used them six times now in Spain with not an issue, each time I check the other rentals companies and Skycars win everytime. Twice we have booked outside the miniumum of 3 days lead time and with a quick call everything was organized. Price is important but service is equal. Have fun.
