Gary, we live in Ft. Lauderdale so I know it is not the heat getting to you...perhaps too much wine?? LOL. Anyway, I know what you mean. I will forward this along to my husband and he can do this part of the trip. I am still busy trying to find an airfare as well as a good travel bag for the day. What does your wife use?

Robbiegirl,
Small world, we are in Ft Lauderdale also. I don't have a wife, I have a life-partner of 25 years. After 18 trips to Europe we are down to 1 carry on bag each. We use the same size bags the flight attendants carry and we limit it to one bag each. We usually send laundry out once or twice on the trip. To us that is much better than lugging around multiple bags, We love to shop so we usually have two bags each on the flight home.
You were a 100% correct about the wine. My typo errors were the resuld of enjoying a 3rd glass of a wonderful Rosso di Mintalcino I purchesed at the vineyard last year while touring Italy.
Secondly I can't type so I "hunt and peck" with two fingers..LOL

Gary, as you see I thought I had erased the first post thinking it was presumptuous writing wife based on the varied friendships that I have.
How wonderful to have a 25 year relationship.

I saw that flying out of Ft. Lauderdale now to Rome and then from Venice to FLL there is a fare with US airways for 850.00. About the best I have seen so far. Still want to wait. Do you like flying out of Miami? That airport is a nightmare!

We probably live quite close to each other!

Robbiegirl, heep checking the airfare. I got our tix for 494.00. The ticket window was only two hours. I posted it here and several other "fodorites" got them also.
I hate flying in or out of Miami airport. I am off Las Olas in Sailboat Bend so I am a 5 minute taxi to the airport in Ft Lauderdale.
Thanks for the compliment on our 25 years together. We are perfect soulmates and have been together since right after high school..The othere travelers (6 in our trip) are friends for 20 plus years. We are all 40 something now and we all live in Ft Lauderdale now so we can remain best friends..P.S. we are neighbors too..
