Reichstag tickets

I am trying to pre-register for tickets to the Reichstag Dome. I will be in Berlin the first week in July. I followed the on-line directions and it seems that in addition to no tickets being available the entire week I am in Berlin, no tickets are available for the remainder of the year. This doesn't seem right. Anybody have any idea what is going on? I know I can try to get tickets once I am in Berlin by going to the Visitor's Center no more than 2 days prior to when I want to go to the Reichstag, so I guess this is an alternative, but no guarantee.

Also, how long should I anticipate spending at the Reichstag? I intend to climb the Dome. I don't need to take a tour with a lecture about how the political process works.

We took the tour of the Reichstag about ten days ago. We had gotten our tickets 2 months ahead. The tour took about one hour and then they told us to climb the Dome from there, which we did. We probably spent about 45-60 minutes doing the dome. Our reservation was a 5PM time so the dome might be busier other times of day, I don't know. We found the guided tour to be quite interesting.

I agree, it doesn't seem right. Is today the first time you've tried for tickets?
It may be a computer downtime or something - Berlin was pretty busy today!

I used the website maybe a month ago and there was an abundance of timeslots, at least for September dates.
I would keep trying daily, especially since you're not seeking a tour or lecture.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for your answers. Today there was no problem at all with the website, I wonder if Obama being in Berlin yesterday had something to do with the website not functioning properly!

We avoided taking the tour and made reservations at the restaurant ( and ate there) to get direct access.

I went to the Reichstag on a Sunday morning about 15 minutes before opening and I got right in.

Thin,
They have changed the procedure a few years ago.
I had to book the day and time and provide ID.

If you are a Senior, over 65, go to the front of the line, tell the folks handling the line that you are a Senior; they will direct you to an elevator around the corner and you will have avoided the long line and wait.
