I went to Montserrat from Barcalona. It was really interesting as you take a funicular up a steep mountain and can go on several different interesting walks that may take from 1 to 3 hours. You see some amazing countryside as views stretch from the mountain top across a valley.

If you like to get away from the city and get fresh air and see incredibly beautiful mountains, then I'd also suggest Mont Serrat.
The Tourist Office at Plaza Catalunya sells a combo-ticket for train, funicular from train station to the Church, lunch, and cable-cars that you take once you're there. It's very easy to do. Go to the full-service underground Tourist Info, not the small stall on Ramblas.
I suggest checking the weather before going since I heard that it's often foggy at Mont Serrat. If you do go, start early because there's so much to do for just a day. I didn't have time to do all the hikes but would've loved to.
