Reasonably priced lodging in Prague
As part of a 3 week vacation to Europe we'll be spending 4 days in Prague in a few weeks and looking for reasonably priced lodging in a good location.
*2 couples (open to sharing a place for 4 or getting 2 rooms)
*Under $100/night per couple if possible.
*Clean, comfortable, safe
*Good location to sightseeing (not into museums, more walking around, stopping for drinks, etc.)
Any recommendations?
Thanks so much!

try this company, the specialise in apartments but also do hotels.Prague is quite a compact city as far as the tourist sites go and it also has an excellent cheap public transport system,so even if you are =note in the main areas it is very easy to get to them.

While in Prague we stayed at Residence Belhedraska 35 in apartment A1. I think it was a great bargain and I highly recommend them. We had three large bedrooms, a huge kitchen/dining room/living room area, two separate bathrooms and a tub area with two sinks and a washing machine. The kitchen had a full stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and all the dishes you could need. The living area had a dining room table and a large leather sectional. We had only four people in our group but you could have easily slept 8 there. Breakfast wasn’t included but there was a nice grocery store less than a block away. The building itself is on a moderately busy street but two of the three bedrooms face the rear of the building on a quiet inner garden area. The one front bedroom was a little noisy if you were a light sleeper but with the windows closed we had no problems what-so-ever. There is a tram stop ½ a block from the front door, and it’s only a few minutes to the Muzeum stop which is right at the top of Wenceslas Square. All of that for only $130 a night is pretty cheap I think. The Czech Republic as a whole is a good deal for travelers but lodging in Prague can be pretty spendy. There was also a computer and internet connection provided for us right in our room which was a nice bonus. Our guide thought that the place was a steal.
Residence Belhedraska also has an airport service they work with that is also very reasonable. They picked us up from the airport (the 1st time I’ve ever had someone standing in the airport lobby holding a card with my name on it, I felt special) and dropped us off at the front door for $28. For four people that’s about $7 a piece (I had help with the math) which is darn cheap compared to the other prices I saw. Residence Belhedraska made the airport pick up arrangements for us.

A few years ago I stayed at Pension U Lilie. It was in a great location, just steps from the Charles Bridge. It was basic accommodations (nothing at all fancy) but I was comfortable there and would recommend it to travelers on a budget. I'm sure this is still in your price range.

When? If you're going to be there in late December, forget it -- only complete dumps will have that price point available.
Try Bishop's House, depending upon when you're there. They have rates right at the $100-115 range at various times and the hotels (there are two, across the street from each other) are 60 footsteps from the Charles Bridge.
If not, the pension "At the Three Ostriches" (U Tri ____") gets good mentions and U Zlatych Nuzek (At the Golden Scissors) on Kampa Island is well-located.
Check reviews on Trip Advisor for all these places too.

I'm going to be staying at Castle Steps in Mala Strana, which is mentioned in a few guidebooks and has gotten very good reviews here and on Trip Advisor. They have very large, beautiful rooms and apartments that are very reasonably priced. We are staying in the Buttercup Room, which is only $70 a night for the room in high season (and includes breakfast). It books early, though, so I wouldn't wait too long.

It depends on how late. I have been to Prague twice at Christmas time (e.g. 22 - 27 Dec)and noticed many applied middle to sometimes almost low season late. My descent 3* hotel both times costed about €35/double room single use. New Year/Eve is another matter. There rates get high. Noticed the same pricing/season in Venice as well.

Thanks so much everyone!
We are leaving for Europe next week and will be in Prague around the 1st weekend in September. (We're last minute planners obviously!)
I think we're going to go with the Charles Bridge Economic Hostel. We can share a 4 person private ensuite for 20euros per person.

That hostel sounds great, you can't be closer to the pulsing heart of Prague than there.

A couple of years ago we stayed at this place and it was fine. For under a hundred bucks you're not looking for a luxury hotel but somewhere clean and comfortable. This would suit the bill. If you stay there, try the restuarant across the street. While it not in pulsing heart of Prague, it's close enough and the metro is only a block from the hotel.
Enjoy Prague.

Hello, we also stayed at Residence Belehradska and were very pleased with it. The room was very clean and the staff was most helpful. The tram stops right up the street and there is a grocery up the street as well if you want to pick up some food for the room. Overall it was a great experience. Also has laundry facilities and free internet.

The closest metro Malostranská is a little farther. or maybe you mean the tram stop Malostranské náměstí. Metro Malostranská is one stop away by tram.
I just hope op has already checked the hostel does have availability because the date is so close.

It's pretty reasonable and the owner has been incredibly helpful. If you check back in mid-September I will post a trip report.
