Rail passes for Germany /Switz/Rome
Help. ...Leaving Saturday!!
Anyone know why I can't get a Quote on bahn.de for my leg from Wengen to Rome???
This is what I found for two adults...
Frankfurt to Wengen: 213E(2nd cl) 338E (1stcl)
Wengen to Rome: Unavailable
3 country 5 day rail pass for two 830E
with 1st class sleeper for two from Spiez to Rome.
1) Anyone know what the cost is from Wengen to Rome on a direct ticket purchase?
2) Is 830E a reasonable price for this pass?
3) Will this pass allow me on other trains in Interlaken area at no charge?
4) Or do we have to purchase direct fare tickets for these other excursions in the area.(EG: Junfrau, Murren, boat trips from interlaken)
5) How long is a Murren excursion from Wengen?
6) Is 6-7 days advance notice enough time to reserve a sleeper for 2?

<Is 830E a reasonable price for this pass?
3) Will this pass allow me on other trains in Interlaken area at no charge?>
830 E x 1.40 = $1,162 - let's say $1,100 at 1.35
where did you get that price?
In U.S. this pass would cost $365 each or $730 + double sleeper would cost about $140 for two above pass = $870
so check with U.S. agents if you think that pass is good for you or not.
You can buy Eurailpasses (including Select) at Europe at EurailAid offices but prices are always IME pegged at 20% higher than U.S. so if a pass buy here even though you have little time and will have to pay express mail charges. I always recommend BETS (800-441-2387) because their express charges are much lower than RailEurope. Or maybe there's a Eurail outlet in your town that can issue the pass on the spot - most large towns have some agents who issue on the spot but typical travel agents order thru RailEurope and resulting high charges.
The pass will not allow you to change trains in Interlaken - well it will but will only pay 25% discount off the Interlaken-Ost to Wengen fare as it's not part of the Eurail system. Boat trips from Interlaken are covered in full by Eurail (and with first class pass you can sit on the top deck) - but only 25% off Jungfrau region railways (but you need not use a day of flexible travel to get the discount - if 100% covered then you must use a flexi day.
Normally yes 6-7 days would be enough in my long experience of reserving these in Europe - especially doubles but do so as soon as possible - try in Frankfurt when you activate your pass or at least in Interlaken-ost upon arrival.

For two people in a double sleeper on the Spiez-Roma night train, the Trenitalia site shows a standard fare of €290, a Smart 2 fare of €202, and a Smart fare of €152. I give you those fares only for comparison purposes because tickets booked at trenitalia.com can only be picked up in Italy. You may find similar fares at the Swiss Rail site.
