And if you do fly then remember you are subject to UK rules on hand luggage and that your total luggage allowance will almost certainly drop - unless you book Tokyo to Edinburgh via Heathrow as opposed to Tokyo to Heathrow and Heathrow to Edinburgh as seperately ticketed flights
But get the train back to London as it's city centre to city centre as opposed to city centre to airport to airport to city centre

I assumed you already were booked into London. I meant I'd fly from LHR to EDI and get there the same day. Schlepping into London simply to get on a train the next day would just add more hassle to an already looooong itinerary. You probably won't feel up to seeing much in London anyway.
LHR is a slog for sure, and the carry-on resttictions can be a pain. But you will already be there and after changing terminals you can be on your way to Edinburgh 3 hours after you land.

G'day all!
Thanks for your comments - which we took onboard. Thought we'd let you know that we changed our flights and now fly into EDI. We will then train it to London.
