Quimper pottery

We are thinking about a trip to Quimper and would like to know where to buy Quimper Faience Pottery. I have heard that there is a factory outlet store there. Are the prices really good? If you have any knowledge about this or information about hotels, restaurants, etc, please e-mail me.

Many Thanks

Thought I'd answer this question in the Forum as others might also be interested in this subject. First, we didn't stay or eat there.

There are a number of stores in Quimper that sell the pottery. The store "in town" that I went to is on the main drag (don't know the name of the street) where the vechicles travel, as opposed to the streets that are just for pedestrians. However, just on the western (I believe that is the direction) outskirts of town there are a couple of factory outlets. One is a "seconds" store w/ more obvious flaws than the other 1 or 2 stores. I'm not so sure there are even flaws b/c I didn't notice them if there are. Plan on spending time browsing - so many things to decide upon.

We were in Quimper almost 10 years ago so this info is not the most current. At that time they had a factory store that had regular merchadise as well as seconds with minor flaws. The tourist office can tell you the location .

There is another lesser known Faience pottery factory in Quimper ..called Keraluc. It has beautiful pottery also.

We stayed at the Novotel on the outskirts of the town. We had a car but did not use it to go into town. There is a convenient bus nearby.

We walked to the Quimper Faience factory....it is close to the Novotel ...a clean, convenient ( typical Novotel) but not particularly charming hotel .

Carol:

We stayed in Quimper a few years ago and visited the Henriot factory and sales room as well as the faiance museum. I don't know the address but if you are in the old town near the cathedral go towards the canal (river?) turn right and on the other side of the river you will preently come their factory. We had lunch in a little bistro where the artists from the factory were as well.

The Henriot showroom was absolutely stunning but the prices were roughly comparable to what we pay here in Canada. The big difference was the choice.

There are some stores as well near the cathedral but they have so much stuff in the windows that it all begins to look the same. At one of these stores we visited their "vaults" that had really old pieces -- huge urns and vases. Great fun but they were way too decorative and expensive for our tastes.

If you like Quimper plan to spend the better part of a day visiting the Henriot factory and museum. That plus the other shops will keep you occupied!

ps. We stayed at the Novotel as well. Same comments apply --- clean, reasonable but no real local charm.
